I've recently made a website that provides free OHR graphics- http://gamersresource0.tripod.com . I've spent almost three weeks re-organizing it so it looks good, and I feel it's now in the proper state to inform you about it.
It's best viewed with a resolution 1024 by 768, in Internet Explorer 6.0, and with the font it asks you to download on the splash page. Anywho, so what do you guys think? |

That site shot me in the heart.

yes, we are anti RM2k...
why do you want to use overused bland graphics to try and impress people, when you can make your own?
it's alright, i'm not supporting that font to be downloaded though...
*Note:* reckon it's a good idea, since some newbies have been posting on the helpme MB about graphics that could be provided _________________ If we were a pack of dogs, IM would be a grand Hound, CN would be a very ficious little pitball, and Giz...well, it doesn't matter breed he is, he'd still be a bitch

Let's not start this debate again.
The site looks really good. The layout, in particular, impressed me. The graphics are pretty nice, but I think you should organize the maptiles. Right now, it'll take me a while to figure what each tile is for. Maybe if possible, you could include an rpg for each tileset that shows an example map. |

Not bad. But I wouldn't be caught dead importing those. The only reason I would want to import graphics is if they were original drawings for the game such as cameos which will appear in Mr.Triangle5 Expansion. But the overall site looked pretty good. You should try and find people who are willing to submit graphics so people can get a taste of different styles, to see how other people sprite. Hehe, if you ask Fen nicely he may make you some. Hehehe. Real nicely. _________________ ---------------Projects----

I think I'll put a pic up showing how my tiles are supposed to be used. Heh, I should've thought of that earlier.
I highly doubt Fenrir would submit his graphics to my site, and then I feel I'd rather him not, 'cuz then his games would loose their originality... And people might download them and then butcher them to look like something awful. I've thouht about having it so other people can submit their graphics, but that'd be too much trouble for me... I'd have to optimize all their pallettes and shrink their size and scan them for viruses and then credit them and whatnot...And, I'm just a learning OHR graphics designer, after all...
The website is more of a hobby-thing I do when I'm bored or have nothing else to do. That's why it was started in the summer, 'cuz that's when I have nothing to do.
Oh yeah- what's RM2K? |

It's the most popular RPG maker out there, pirated from Japan, and it is built around ripped graphics, poor gameplay, and unoriginality up the butt. Plus, it's not flexible, and it has a poor script system. We don't want to become RM2k, and that's why I don't support your site. _________________

I think people already misuse his graphics, actually. I doubt it would be that much of a difference.
btw, I still think RM3K looks uber freaking cool. People will still probably just rip graphics and make crap with it though. _________________ Locked

RM2k comes with a free package of graphics and music, thus encouraging
game designers(Or whatever they are) to use them and not make their
own. |

Creating an effort-free piece of crap that looks exactly the same as every other RM2K (or RM2K3) game ever made. When you top that off with the fact that the program is, tchnically, illegal, it makes for a NO! BAD! BAD! kind of reaction.
And I'm pretty sure the only graphics Fen authorizes people to use is his Kyle spriteset, and even with that you need to get permission. Although people seem to rip his stuff way too much. I've seen a game (not mentioning names) that ripped maptiles from Timestream Saga. What's funny about that? TS ripped graphics from FFVI relentlessly, so this other game used double-ripped graphics. Honestly. If you're gonna be that lazy, you should throw yourself into RM2K hell. _________________ UP DOWN UP DOWN LEFT LEFT RIGHT RIGHT A B START |

For the record, TS1 ripped from:
FF4,5,6, Romancing SaGa 3, Chrono Trigger, and a single jpged screenshot of a battle in FF2J back on the WSC (the werehusky battle sprite, to be precise).
Coincidentally, as far as Cameos go, Housemaster, Joe, and Good Kitty make their appearance in TSSE, however they don't use their original sprites. Thought you might like that bit of trivia. And yes, I received the go ahead for doing that. In general, when you use someone else's characters or graphics, you should ask for permission, unless they've given it freely. |
