Here are some maptiles I've been working on. What do you think?

It's hard to judge it like that. Maybe you could make a small map.

That's what I was thinking, too, but he just sent me the picture like that and asked me to post under his name. I'd make a map myself, but I don't know exactly how the tiles are supposed to fit together.

It's a good start. Should have more variety, though. Also, it looks a bit too 'clean'.

Gah! The floor tile looks exactly like one of my tiles! Now I have to change it!

But otherwise, they look very good, 'cept maybe you should try making them look "worn", otherwise they just look too new.

Okay, old looking, gotcha. Man, I hate making maptiles.

do you mean I should have more then wallls and a floor or that I need to have it so that walls and the floor don't look the same all over the place?

I'm really not very good with grammer and spelling, so just tell me if you don't understand something.

The tiles look fine actually. What I would recommend, though, concerning the floors:

This has a lot of annoying pop-ups, but teaches some pretty good lessons on the Do's and Don't's of Pixel Art (and it more specifically covers maptiles)

great start.
as for the variety, which is what I was thinking you need as well,
make a copy of tiles , then add things like broken tiles, different pattern, mabey plants or something, objects on the on the floor, or walls, such as torches, or other form of light. windows mabey(unless it is a dungeon)

Look around your house and other places you go during the day. Rarely do you see places that are completely the same all over. Get ideas from differences you see in real life.

Hope that helps

Not bad... But I personally don't like em. Show more variety. Players don't like looking at the same stuff all the time. Show them new scenery every now and then. Like maybe dripping water, some prision bars. Holes, tattered debree. Be creative. It's your game, spice it up!

They are really boring. But I'm assuming this is simply a base, not the final product, and if so it is an excellent start. You seem to have all the 3dness down and it actually has some depth...nice.

But dark. Might want to make the background of the web page be white or something so I can see where the tiles end and the background begins...grah!

That was my fault, Shadow. I made the background black 'cos I thought a white background would conflict with the blackness in the shot.

For the record, you were right about them being a base. He's just treying to get something down at the moment. I'm sure he'll add some variety before he releases a demo.
