Anyone notice a bunch of junk users signing up lately with just a drugs website in their bios? This Vi925ctor guy, for example. Don't expect him to post anytime soon. I saw another awhile back, but thought nothing of it at the time.

The best thing we can do (as members) is ignore them. Whenever they "post", we'll let the mods delete it, and they may as well remove suspicious accounts as well (I recently noticed "and222" type names).

I forget who suggested it, but that little "type this message" thing that they now have on various sign up sheets might just do the trick and help eliminate stupid people.

I suggested this to the admins recently, and though nothing has currently been done about it (to my knowlege), I have noticed a marked slowdown in the registration of new nicks by them. I suggest the following strategy:

SPAM ALL BOTS INBOXES WITH THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE:

We should really delete these accounts. The dummy users will probably never post anything. From what I understand, these bots register with URLs in the bio to give their site's Google ranking a boost. A similar thing kept happening to the comments in my blog (which is why I got frustrated and rarely post to it anymore...) Anyway, my point is, these bastards shouldn't profit off of out site, so we should scrap these bogus accounts.

And yeah, I think the "type the picture" for a new account idea is a good one.

Guys, this really isn't a big deal. The ops have been aware of this problem for awhile, but since the bots just register names and don't post, who cares? Yes, an op could go in and delete all the bot names, but you're asking someone to take a day off to "fix" something that doesn't really affect CP at all. As for changing the reg process to stop them, we could, but IM has had a LOT of problems when he tries to keep bots out and ends up getting emails from users who also can't get in.

I just kind of feel like we shouldn't let behavior like this slide, because it means these crappy spam tactics work. Like I said, I don't want these bastards profiting off our site. Besides, I don't think legit users would have a hard time copying text from a picture.

I demand this thread's topic either be renamed IMMEDIATELY, or moved to another forum. What forum is this, I ask? (Don't worry. I'll tell you the answer. I'm just pausing for dramatic effect) The "What You Want to See Forum". And we DON'T want to see bots. Hereby agreeing with Fenrir's solution, and demanding a "What DON'T you want to see?" board, for threads such as this, pictures of Alf with a boner, and pornographic photos of the moderator's mothers. (Actually, you might wanna give Aeth's mom the twice over. She's pretty MILF.)
