Hi all, I'm a bit new here (though not new to the OHR community at all!). You may know me from such OHR utilities as "Relump" or "ABE". Anyway, I'm working on a new project to port the OHR into a language called FreeBASIC. To facilitate my work on this, and to help others with their own OHR projects, I've set up a website/forum for all of us developers.
http://ohr.finalfantasyq.com/ or, shorter, http://ohrdev.tk/
I look forward to seeing some people there! _________________ I stand corrected. No rivers ran blood today. At least, none that were caused by us.

Cool. I've got my project too (*still* not playable yet, working on that even as I type this), but mine is SDL in C. I wonder if FreeBASIC is compatible with this new version of BASIC I found last night, by the name of Gambas, which is a very powerful BASIC clone that supports "widgets" and such that you might expect from a "more powerful" language like Visual Basic or such. I haven't had a chance to play with it yet, but I might make a clone of OHR as well in Gambas. But it seems to not even like its own examples (might be a missing package or something). So I'm still plotting the C thing first.

I've never heard of Gambas, but FreeBASIC is more like C, in that it's lower level (no OOT yet, etc.) but can access the API, make DLLs, etc. Plus, if you don't use any windows-specific libraries, FB also has a Linux compiler. So, James's dream of having a native Linux port of the OHR is coming! _________________ I stand corrected. No rivers ran blood today. At least, none that were caused by us.

Well... I want to see this new version... If It's too much like my own, there's no need for me to continue my efforts...

No Phyrfox. Please continue on your development.
I really would like to see your engine. It seems you are more clued up here than anyone else in this area. _________________

*blinks* Thanks for the wake up call. I don't know what came over me... Of course I'll continue my development. After all, I'm not porting anything, when more in actuality I'm making a complete re-write. Which means it'll have its own flavor, no matter what anyone else makes.

Hey, you have no right to stop developing just because of me! You were here first!
Anyway, I will be adding new features when the port is complete, but that won't be for a long time. _________________ I stand corrected. No rivers ran blood today. At least, none that were caused by us.

I know the feeling. If I didn't work, I could have had this one ages ago; at least the three-day weekend works out well for advancing the coding, although I recently broke (?) my compiler, and SDL just disappeared. Might be a sign I should just stick with OGL, although I'd like to keep SDL to prevent having to have multiple sources of code for creating windows and maintaining intput/output. Hopefully this weekend that will be fixed and I'll be back to full productivity.
