Sure! This looks interesting. I'll play it.

...Will have to find the time to review it. I usually know what to say while I play the game, but completely forget how to say it when it comes time to review it. Oookay...

Well, at this point, there isn't much content. There's about 30 minutes of gameplay for an intro and enough info to start you off with a direction for a plot.

But, for the most part, my main motivation to make this game was the idea of making a Breath of Fire game based in the 1930s.

<EDIT> I reviewed the game. How do I preview the review after I submitted it? Where is the "Edit review" function? Thank you.

Ah. I played it, and I like what you have done so far. I especially found the battles to be balanced. Not too hard, but not too easy either. The experience for soloing is great. I get to lvl 10 before the game... erhem- ends.

You gotta do something about the "button crunching" factor, though. At the moment, I only need to worry about the enter key/spacebar and rarely on the use of items. I think putting items that are consumable damage items would be nice, and I bet you have already considered it.

Also, I like how the battles with multiple different kinds of enemies (different colored blobs, actually) give me the choice of strategy when I kill them. I knock out the weaker ones first, then I don't have to worry about the extra damage from them.

I found that some of the battle formations could use editing. Move the tougher ones to the front, so heros would hit them first by default. A wise player would want to move their target to the back right now, because all of the enemies do relatively 1 damage. The mage blobs hurt though...
I think, switch the HP of the mage blob with the blue blob. Mages are good for damage, but they are easy to knock out, this way a player can choose to extinguish them first. Just some thoughts.

I am reviewing your game right now, actually...

Haven't played much, but I already have a few critiques.

This is a huge pet-peeve of mine: if the object you want placed over the hero doesn't fill up the tile completely, do not under any circumstances make this an overhead tile. When I walk under a lamppost and the whole tile, sidewalk included, covers my hero, this looks extremely bad. Please don't do this.

On a similar note, do not make a tile overhead if the hero's head can enter the tile from the bottom. In this game if I stand one tile below the cars, the foot offset causes my head to go under the car and this also looks really bad.

Using the text box only for the speaker's name is harder to read and doesn't look good. The reason text boxes exist is that they make the text easier to read (except for when they're transparent, which is just as bad).

Like Leroy said, the battles aren't very interesting. And your formations could use some work. When I select an enemy its name shouldn't leave the screen.

Also, Leroy: to edit a review you click on the "Edit reviews" link. It's just under "Add game" and "Edit Games."

Question 1: The first thing you mentioned was a pet peeve of yours is a pet peeve of mine too. How does one fix this problem, though? I've heard of people solving this exact problem before, but what are some of the ways these people took to avoid the "cover-up" effect (when thin objects are made overhead tiles)?

The rest was exactly what I put into my review of the game. So, yay, we both think so.

Question 2: I don't see anything like this. All I see is FAQ, Search, Member List, user groups, Profile, "You have no new messages", and Log Out Leroy_Leo... Am I not an official member, or are we not on the same page (so to speak)?

Just make the tile impassable.

You're not looking in the right place. The edit review link is on the forum listing. It's on the "Game/Review Editting" forum, the second from the top.

I will download Setu, because I love to kiss your ass.

It looks interesting enough, and I liked Breath of Fire (I liked the first one. Not the second.)

'K. Found it.
Time now to cross my fingers and hope the review is effective enough to be accepted. :p

Another possibility for the bad overhead tiles would be to make the tile itself only the ground, and use NPCs for the skinny (or whatever) thing that is supposed to be over the hero. Now that we have an option for 'draw NPCs over heros' in the map editor, this could be used for such a purpose, if you have enough NPCs still available.

This won't fix the second part of the problem though, I think.

Yeah, guys, I know about that whole thing. I should have just made them impassible. I'll actually do that on the next update.

Also, LeRoy, I don't know if you checked out the "Leech" skill. I rigged a system to where instead of stealing items, you "leech items that teach skills" to characters, so to speak.

This demo's a real fixer upper, but it's still in good progress anyway.

I couldn't figure out what "leech" did. It didn't appear to do anything... I like your concept for it, though.

i played it- its real good, and with windia, zenny and dragoon statues its a real BoF game too.

I liked the BoF2 style dragon at the bottom right of battle screens-if you could include this somehow-like in 2 were it measured your relationships
with characters and mood and stuff it would be great.

I like the map, if it was detaailesd out a bit and had some plotscripting work it could be a brillint BoF4 style map. Oh-and the overhead cars was kinda ingenious-but impassable ones would have solved the missing head problem like lots of earlier people have said.

Wow, i should write a reveiew
