Okay, I'm guessing that many of us have seen pictures of the Revolution's controller and have heard about how it works and such. If you haven't heard about it yet, here is the required reading before replying to this thread:
http://cube.ign.com/articles/651/651275p1.html
http://media.cube.ign.com/articles/651/651275/imgs_1.html
http://cube.ign.com/articles/651/651224p1.html

And now my question is: If you were designing a game for the Revolution, what kind(s) of game(s) would you design and how would you use the controller? And don't say something inane like "I want a Mario game," I'm looking for something more like "I want a platformer in which you use the controller in such and such ways to control the game" (commenting on others' ideas is encouraged as well).

Also, if you want to talk about whether you love/hate the controller, go somewhere else. This thread is about game design.

Anyway, here are my ideas:
* Star Wars Lightsaber duels. I've never seen a game that does these right. In the movies the duels are almost all blocking, and in most cases only one hit is landed the entire time (which tends to end the fight). Traditional console controllers would have a hard time doing this right, but the Revolution controller could do it easily. Just swing the controller like a sword, using the buttons and/or specific motions to move your character around the battlefield.

You could maybe use the D-pad to walk towards/away from/around your opponent, maybe holding the B trigger if you wanted to run instead of walk. But I'm not sure how easy that would be while you're holding the controller like a sword. It might be simpler to use motions. You could angle it back to walk backwards, angle forward to walk forward, to the sides to strafe around your enemy, or hold it straight up to stand still. There are a million ways the controller can move or receive other kinds of input, so there are a lot of options the choose from.

(Obviously, this idea would work fine with regular swords, I just like the idea better with lightsabers)

* Since I already mentioned a platformer, how might that work? One idea I have is that you could use the controller in a point-and-click way to select platforms/other objects and move them around. You have to arrange the platforms in such a way so that your character can get through the level. So I guess this would be kind of a cross between a platformer and a god game (heh, whoever thought that would happen?). Going off of that, maybe you wouldn't be fully in control of your character. It'd be walking constantly, and you'd have to move ahead and remove obstacles, place platforms over pits, get rid of enemies, and stuff like that. Since walking in a straight line all the time is boring, you'd be able to make your character jump by pressing A (which I guess leaves B to pick up/put down objects). Maybe in order to kill enemies you'd have to pick up objects and throw them. Different objects could be more effective against different enemies in different situations. Like maybe a rock is strong, but it only hits one enemy, while some other object could split and hit many enemies, but it wouldn't get through the armor of stronger enemies.

I'll post more ideas as they come to me.

The first thing I want to see is a fully-realized sword/blunt object-swinging game. Maybe that seems silly, but I really want to be able to actually slice my enemies in games from now on!

Regarding the platformer/god game, it's been done, and by people we know, too. You'll be wanting the final patch, by the way.

This isn't necessarily a original idea, but ti is something. How 'bout a RTS for the Revolution? There's not a lot of RTS for consoles, and this new controller might make console RTS' seem like a less stupid idea.

"Pikmin for the Revolution?" Maybe?

RTS' for the Revolution. Yeah...

I've been waiting several years for something like this. The idea of a more interactive gaming environment is an exciting one indeed. It's too bad that there are still some doubts about this, though.

In the third article, where it talked about the action games (The only games I ever wanted to use this since 1997 when I thought about the possibility of this sort of controller), they stated that there would need to be a camera LOCK feature so the player wouldn't accidentally zoom in, out, or look around while they were, say, swinging their sword. The thought is sort of amusing. The screen would be moving around like nuts, guys. I was thinking that this might make the battle's more realistic (That's what it looks like when you swing a sword), but I can see how hitting a target on a screen that keeps waving around would be nearly impossible. I don't doubt that they already have the lock feature, but some people could forget to turn it off when they need to move the camera, which I know is frustrating.

The bottom line is, we need this sort of controller, buggy or not. And I am afraid that, once again, when Nintendo pioneers something nice it's only a matter of time before their blasted competitors improve on the idea. I am so fucking buying this, though.

-Censored- And, ladies, when you're done playing, the rumble feature could be used as a vibrating dildo. Wink

~~~Extra~~~
Because I realize that not everyone could make it to the Tokyo Game show or see this live yesterday, I have a treat.
I believe that this speech, albeit long (47 minutes long), is extremely informative on Nintendo's mission and adresses much of the other beliefs and thoughts I have been hearing around here about their past and into the future. I hope this means Nintendo will be around for far longer. http://www.irwebcasting.com/050916/03/ff3672f7df/main/index_hi.htm
[Edit] The talk about the "Revolution" technically begins at 26:00 or close to there, if that is all you are interested in. It also includes Nintendo's reasoning behind it in detail. Also, at 29:00, there is the funniest comercial in history. Happy
Maybe you've seen/heard this (Maybe I didn't need to link you guys)... However, I like how Nintendo wants to increase their audience. That's a sign of an ever ambitious company and I love it. Brain making software sounds amazing. It must be watched. The future of gaming is up to the gaming population.
The thing looks like a sex toy. It even has a built in vibrator.
Perhaps an unlikely inspiration for the Revolution? Seriously. One can never know for sure if it wasn't.
This is quite an interesting sort of device, and it's good to see that Nintendo continue to try to innovate. I'd very much like to see if entirely new sorts of genre's could be developed with this kind of controller, rather than just improving on already existing ones. If any of the major gaming companies can handle this kind of thing, it is certainly Nintendo in my opinion. Right now all I can think of is some kind of game involving building machines or other such things...? That's not very good. I used to imagine a Lego's type video game where you could build your own spaceship that would be your ship to fly in the game. I guess I mean something like that, but I'm not sure...
That's not a bad thought at all. I think they could make awesome use of the Revolutions features that way. Picking up blocks or pieces of a ship and putting them together, then using the controller to grab your ship and move it through space... Legos would be fun, but this could be used in more realistic senses to, for sure.
I also think the Ping-pong or tennis games would be friggin sweet. With the angle/ tilt sensory features of the controller, one can hit an object in almost any direction. But what about power... Is the controller velocity or force sensitive? I maybe missed that. If it is, then flicking your wrist at different speeds could effect how powerful the result is too...
It doesn't need a velocity sensor, it can calculate that by measuring how far you move your controller in how much time.
Either, or. Both would be interesting.
