either buy an expensive piece of software (which isn't worth it) or transcribe it manually.

NEVER ever trust those MP3 to MID programs. They are the spawn of evil. Just brush up on your theory and take multiple deep-zoning listens to it. I suggest going for the bass progression first, since that lays a nice foundation to hear other things even more clearly, and, frankly, it's the most important part of the music right past the recognizable melody.

I suggest doing something simple before you go on to something more difficult.

Oh. You weren't joking.

Perhaps some sucker has already done the work for you. Try googling "<song name> midi".

MP3 format is a compressed WAV file. WAV is just a raw sound recording, measured in its frequency waveform. MIDI is simply a computer message of notation.

To put it in illustration, MIDI would be the same as you typing a paper in Word of Notepad, whereas WAV and MP3 are like a scanned page of writing. They're both the same kind of thing, but so very different in the format.

So, what I'm leading up to is, unless someone figures out a way, then it's virtually impossible to backtrack like that.
