Hey guys I'm new here...just wanted to announce my greetings and upload of my 3rd OHR effort, "Rp" (title pending.) It's significantly better than my first RPG, which I might upload at a later date...
I used OHRRPGCE for the first time in...2002 I think. I only recently started working on this new RPG and I stumbled across Castle Paradox...it's great...
Well any discussion about my game please post it here, I'm going to go play Boundless Ocean some more. |

Mike W? Are you by chance a former bassist for the Minutemen?
On a more serious note, I might give the game a whirl. I invite you to play some of mine too! |

What would we discuss, the title? Do you pronounce it "arr pee" or "urp" or what?
Anyway, good luck, hope to see screenshots or other teasers soon. _________________

Probably "Rating Pending".
As someone who just downloaded and began playing this game, I can already tell quite a bit of effort was put into it. I hope the other newbies (like me) learn from this example. _________________

Thanks for checking out my game.
I'm going to pick a few games at random and write some reviews...
Oh and here is the game link for anyone interested in playing it:

If it gets good reviews I might finish it. Although, I'm not adverse to going back and re-balancing it or adding stuff, so comments are welcome! |

Nice game, the story seems interesting. I can tell you got some inspiration from "Terrible Thunderlizards", anyone remembers this cartoon?
Here is my suggestion to improve your game.
1. Get rid of the blurry backgrounds, they just hurt the eyes of the player.
2. Learn some shading, unless you are going for the NES style graphics.
3. Orion's battle sprite needs to have more outline, right now I cannot tell whether the sword is on his side or going through his head The beginning of his sword makes him look like he has beaver teeth.
4. Its better to have textboxes not translucent, because its kinda hard to see text if the textbox appears on the bright maptiles.
Well thats about it from me. _________________ Try my OHR exporter/importer.

I just finished the game. You did a pretty good job.
Obviously, a lot of the backgrounds need to be revamped, and a lot of your tiles are too bright (BRIGHT, SCORCHING, YELLOW SAND!!! NEON GLOWING GRASS!!!), but your gameplay is pretty solid for what it's worth.
My only issue is that characters aren't diversed enough. Orion and Xealine pretty much play the role of what their equipment gives them, with Orion being the better of the two for his Crescent (being able to heal HP is far more cost efficient than healing MP, especially for going through random battles, where it takes several battles to warrant using a Heal Potion, while Fire spells drain MP extremely fast for not doing much more than physical attacks). Crescent probably needs to be toned down somehow. Elaine is different enough, thankfully. Lucas will need to have a storyline event that gives the player a mechanism to help him turn into Werewolf form more often.
Other than that, your last boss was pretty good. I liked it. _________________

I enjoyed the game! You seem to have a good handle on the OHR, so follow through and it'll be really good. It makes me want to make a RPG again (how I wish I still had the time...) I really like... the woman whose name starts with X. And the werewolf character is a nice touch; I haven't seen anything like that in an OHR game.
I think some people are gonna whine about the shading, but honestly, I like the way that the game looks. The backdrops are pretty painful, but I'd say keep the sprites and maptiles as they are.
A couple problems:
1) The Core boss that casts Fire2 does way too much damage! I got creamed. Not saying he shouldn't have a powerful desperation attack, but maybe it could be just a tad weaker?
2) The story doesn't make any sense. I realize you were focusing a little more on other parts of the game, but I was really confused throughout the whole demo. Why are these nations fighting? Who are the main characters and why are they here? The two characters that I found joined with little to no reason from what I can tell. Honestly, if you want this game to have a really nice flow, you have lots of work to do in this area. Keep the text boxes how they are, though! (Maybe different colors for the characters) They are great, and you're pretty good at writing dialogue.

hmmm... pretty good game! (especially considering it's your third!)
Good use of plotscripting, and your hero maptile style,KEEP IT! It may be poorly shaded, but the way it's peiced together makes it look good, and unique!
The backdrops did hurt my eyes, but other then that...I liked youre game! |
