Naw, I'm still just lurking.

Here is a website I've been reading for a long time, and I feel I ought to share it with you kids. It's a wiki for all kinds of cliches, references, and examples from TV shows, anime, movies, video games, and more. Being a wiki, you might end up wasting too much time reading page after page, so be careful. Not only will you find it funny for all of the satire and criticism, but you will also learn about common story and character elements, so you can learn what to avoid and what makes sense. Keep in mind that they are talking about "tropes", which means common themes and such writers tend to rely on. They aren't all cliches, some of them are just trends or norms.

TVTropes.org

Of course, the main reason I'm showing this to you kids is so you no longer have an excuse to fill your games with Mary Sues and Marty Stus.

Ah, yes. I have experienced that site before. The subject that interested me the most was Lampshade Hanging, which is something I noticed even in some OHR games.

That site is the greatest timesucker ever. Never open it up at work if you have anything to do for the rest of the day.

I dunno, I'm getting the feeling this site is of the opinion that EVERY SINGLE THING you can think of is a cliche... but I may be missing the point.

There's a difference between a trope and a cliche. Read the site introduction.
