Would people get really annoyed if they had played to the end of a game, only to find out that the hero commits suicide after being told something awful? I was going to do somethin like that in my game, but im not sure how people would react to such a plot, far away from traditional stereotypical rpg plots. Opinions anyone? Thanx. |

It would depend on the situation and the hero. If I didn't care about the hero then it wouldn't bother me (although if I didn't care about the hero it's likely that I wouldn't bother to play till the end). For example, I didn't care about the end of FF10 because Tidus is a stupid jock and cause the game sucked. But at the end of FF6 if Terra had died I'd probably have gone on a murderous rampage. _________________ Locked

You don't kill the hero off just for the sake of an ending twist. His/Her death must directly relate to the theme or message of the story. |

I agree with Iblis on this one. Another thing I think about that is if you can see it coming. I can always predict character deaths, and if you can it's the work of a good story teller. If you just kill off a character without expectation then I wouldn't be too happy about that. One example of this is Leo in FFVI. One key is noticing how a character always bonds with that character that is about to die. It happens with Leo, it happens with Tellah, it happens with every character in every good RPG. Yeah, there definitely needs to be a reason for him/her to die. Another possibility is if for whatever reason the hero needs to die to save the planet, then that would probably be okay. _________________ Locked

No, there is a reason for the char dying. It is foreshadowed all along. He is betrayed, and finds out he has murdered his king and friend for no reason but to aid the ascension of the kings enemy to the throne, who had been manipulating the hero all along. that ok? |

I'm curious as to why you just revealed a seemingly large portion of the story. _________________ Locked

Because thats not what happens. Just the type of idea. And believe me, if anyonne was able to play e game to the end and not put their fist through the screen, they'd deserve a medal. |

Oh, ok. I was wondering why it sounded so similar to FFT. _________________ Locked

FFT is final fantasy tactics. And don't worry, it's not the same story. It has some similar stuff though (lots of manipulation and death and people ascending to the throne). _________________ Locked

I think the hero should die only for a good reason...
like if the main character sacrifices themselves for their son/daughter.
Or some other important reason...
betrayal makes the main character seem weak. _________________ ~PH

How does it make the character seem weak because someone betrays him? _________________ Locked

it makes them seem weak because heroes usually stick to one idea and not change the idea because of a situation, this makes them look more determined and willing to do things than a traitor... _________________ If we were a pack of dogs, IM would be a grand Hound, CN would be a very ficious little pitball, and Giz...well, it doesn't matter breed he is, he'd still be a bitch
