Im making a game called thugs, which is going to be sort of like GTA, but with a few rpg elements to it, and it is going to work like an arcade game, where you try to get as much money as you can, and then when you get a game over, it ranks you from low life thief to criminal mastermind. So far, i have made the script for mugging a person, which causes a fight with a citizen, which is normally very easy, but returns low value things. I also made a script for breaking into cars, which randomly returns items or cash, but can cause a fight with police, which is hard. I also made a script for picking locks, so you can rob houses, and has a chance at fighting police. Lastly, i made a script for bank robberies, which has a 30% chance of an instant game over, which is getting sent to jail, and a 70% chance of a very hard police fight. If you survive, you gain 10,000$. I also made a script that plays when you go back to your house and sleep, which recovers HP and reshuffles the locations of cars and citizens. Any suggestions or ideas before i start actually placing the things in the city you play in? Im hoping for a lot, i dont feel that there is enough crimes in the game yet! _________________ Resident Evil RPG Demo

Make it so that you can get busted for insider trading and jaywalking. _________________

Well, what age group is this targeting?
If that's not a concern, there's a bunch of murder and rape related crimes you could try your hand at.
Granted, I wouldn't recommend it, as that sort of stuff usually comes off as tasteless unless it's done very subtly or artistically. |

You should add a pacifist path such that the protagonist can make an honest living in order to avoid any unnecessary blood shed. |

Ooh, I second that. Offers a chance for moralistic dilemmas in the story. |

Or the alternate is you could be as subtle as Atari with the issue and do it like this: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/angry-video-screwattack/23884
Oh and on the topic of crimes, you should definitely add drug smuggling (I hope someone didn't already say this :S) |

haha i definitly didnt expect 5 replies the morning after i posted this. lol i feel kinda dumb now cuz i dont know what insider trading is, and i feel like i should hahaha . Im not really targeting any age group, but there will be a lot of drug references, and you are going to be able to buy drugs from a dealer and sell them in smaller proportions to people walking around. And i dont want to do anything like rape, i want all the crimes to be profitable in some way. I mean, rape in a video game doesnt help you out at all. But the murder thing is a good idea. maybe you could carry out hits or something. Btw, neospade, that was the most amazing video ever lmao. atari's a bunch of pervs hahaha. And i was thinking about adding a good guy path kind of thing to the game, but i have no idea how i could do it. You couldnt really get a job, that game would be ridiculously boring, unless the job was like a minigame. _________________ Resident Evil RPG Demo

Insider trading is when someone who works in accounting at Microsoft tells you to buy/sell Microsoft stock and you do it. It's a very profitable crime!
You should also put in insurance fraud, sales of alcohol to minors, disorderly conduct, public intoxication, and tax evasion.
Seriously, if you put in even half of these, I will love your game forever. _________________

In my review of Loser Man, I praised the game for doing a pretty decent job of having GTA elements, so you may want to check that out. _________________

haha but insider trading and such isnt really a GTA kind of crime. i may just put in public intoxication though! In the game, you are going to be able to use drugs to change your stats a bit, like say u use speed, well i guess its pretty self explanatory, but it will increase your speed and dodge and decrease your aim. Maybe i could put in cops, that if you get to close to them, they will search you or drug test you. I dont think it will have selling alcohol to minors, but dealing drugs in general. lol. i may just have to make a development journal for this game, the only thing stopping me is that it wont have a storyline or anything, so by the time i get in the routine of adding something to the game, and then putting it in the journal, the game will be done _________________ Resident Evil RPG Demo

You know how every town has that weird law that the rest of the country doesn't understand? You should have a bunch of those.
Like:
Milking a cow in a subway terminal (fresh milk makes you money)
Performing Shakespeare in the park (equals panhandling)
Buying ice cream from a "lady of the night" (which you could sell at a markup)
And so on. _________________ Progress Report:

This reminds me of a rather absurd rule in the city of Chester not too far from here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/6204511.stm there's a little bit about us Welshies there |
