It's hard to figure out whether you're attempting to kid around or you're being incredibly condescending. It comes off as the latter, especially coming from you. Such passive hostility is neither necessary nor welcome.
Of course, maybe you're trying to be nice, in which case I apologize and highly suggest you analyze your language, given that your history suggests a less friendly interpretation. _________________

I meant it just being buddy buddy with you. I guess we're just not at the point in our relationship yet
And my history is quite friendly, ask anyone! |

As things stand, I ended up with a very different game than I originally planned. It's not even much of a game at this point, much of it is cinematic. There's only two fights, one you can win and one you will lose.
I'm going to have to cut it off after the first dungeon and submit it then.
Finishing this game will be my next endeavor. |

This is more evidence as to how shock horror can fail. Yes, it was scary, but also 100% irrelevant. I give it a thumbs-down.
Anyway, your point is to test the battle system, right? It takes a while to figure out, but thankfully it is figure-outtable, and gives you enough leeway to do something and keep from getting killed. Balance needs work, especially with spells, but this is more of a code showcase, and in that sense it's very impressive. And now I see why you were asking about making certain menu items un-selectable, it is a bit annoying.
Nice work overall, very nice. |

I'll reserve all my comments about the games until I vote on them. Looking forward to Twinhamster's, (downloading). Moogle's was neat. HOPE you'll release whatever you got too, Dr. Bacon. And I want more antics from the host of this contest.
Also, it would make my OHR career if Rya would be so kind to play this and tell me it was "meh". If not for the Crazy K at the end. Where is Valk??? |

Well golly!
I feel like I missed so much context-wise, but found the game fun regardless.
(Also, thanks for including the scripts!)
Still looking forward to the release of any other entries. |

This is NOT a release for the Halloween contest.
I'm re-releasing my previous Halloween themed game Vampire's Curse, with a few updates, some bugfixes, and a slightly better soundtrack. For those who've played the game before, you'll notice the whole leveling up system has been slightly rebalanced - moreover, just about every attack now gives you Blood - to spend more freely. More weapons, stronger bosses, what else could you ask for?

SHiIDA is...
Well, I got the first dungeon up like I said. The rest will come later. I'm only planning on one more version, the complete version. Enjoy this in the meantime.
The CP page now has a download link, but here's the SS one if you prefer.

Creepy. I'm not a horror fan, so I'm probably not the right audience for this type of game (I've always enjoyed Scary Game and Halloween Quest type games for this contest more), but I definitely think you went above and beyond in presentation here. Having the main character freak every time something crazy happens is a nice touch, and when the monsters start showing up, they really add some willies to this game. If Viridia is anything like this, you'll probably have a game that can shut OHR naysayers' mouths. I admit that I shut this off after that eyeball looking jelly bat thingamabob in the chamber of skull tiles severed my character in half, simply because I don't typically enjoy this type of game. But I think that's the one time you can take discontinuation as a compliment. This was a genuine creepy experience. Good job. For anyone who enjoys survival horror, this is a treat.

This game oozed with ideas I once had about an OHR game sucking its creator into a black hole and trapping him in his computer for a year and having other players trying to uncover the mystery of what happened. I was even thinking of leaving the community for a year just to make it seem real. Now I'm glad I don't have to do that, as this game clearly did it one better with all that sociopathic OHR love stuff. I love the sound effects you used, though I could've lived without the "Flamewars" song.
And I agree. I think this is the winner of the contest. Though, SHiIDA gives you a good run for the money. So weird. Excellent job.
Twinhamster,
I like the battle system. Not sure what else you're showcasing with it, though.
These were cool, but I miss the old, cheesy trick or treat style games.
Moogle, I still have to play yours. Yours is supposed to take awhile, right? _________________ Progress Report:

Who told you that?
Assuming you don't fail any of the stages, you're looking at an hour and a half, tops, and probably closer to an hour. _________________

Okay, I think we can safely say that everyone's had enough "wiggle room" to get finished. Is a week going to be enough time for everyone to play the games, and should we clutter up the forums with a separate thread for vothing? |
