Hi all. Long time reader, first time poster.

I'm using OHRRPGCE to develop an 8-bit dungeon crawler akin to the early NES games. Being a 'programmer' and not a graphics designer I want to add some placeholder art so I can create a prototype of my masterpeice as soon as possible.

One of the images I am using to test this is this, from one of the early FF games.

http://img851.imageshack.us/i/wizardr.gif/

Using GIMP to change the image to something resembling what the engine can use as a small monster, I got this:

http://img806.imageshack.us/i/wizardf.png/

However, it shows up as grey on the import menu. This is even though I followed the wiki instructions to what I thought were the letter.

Can somebody enlighten me to what I am doing wrong? Also, if it is really complicated can somebody give me a tutorial for how to do this in GIMP (I'll be using a NES colour pallette with Hero/Tiles/Monsters from various NES games as placeholders)?

Many thanks,

A typical newbie Big grin

The OHRRPGCE does't have any .png import support (yet). Save the file as a .bmp and then it will show up.

Also make sure that it is reduced to 16 colors. In the Gimp you do that from Image->Mode->Indexed

Imageshack turned it into a .png from a .bmp file for some reason, how strange.

Thanks James for your prompt reply, just did what you said and it worked a treat.

Image hosting websites hate bitmaps because they're huge; at least yours turned it into a PNG instead of a JPEG.
