I have a point in my game where the viewpoint switches characters. I tried to do this by having a door take the character to a different room and then step on an NPC with a text box that will remove the previous hero and swap in the new hero.

Every time I try to do this, it doesn't work, even if the text shows up.

How should I get around this?

You can never have zero heroes in the active party, so if you try to swap out the old her first, and then swap in the new hero, it will fail.

Instead you must swap in the new hero, and swap out the old one.
