I hate slumps, I'm in a game making slump right now... I can't stand it. If anyone else is in a game making slump and can't make a good game and keep going with it let me know. I would like to see what they do to get out of them, and possibly, together we can work around the slump! Because I hate slumps!

I know what tou mean zero, I was in a slump for almost a year! But, now I've started work again and really all you need is someone to tell you how good or bad the ideas are.

Yeah, nothing sucks out creativity and ambition like school.

I hear that.

Just take a break, don't try so hard to pull a great game idea out of you. Look for inspiration in daily life and other video games. That's what I always do.

yeah, what lucier says.

school, funnily enough, gives me inspiration rather than give me slumps.(until exams that is) With all the crazy stuff my group does, it's almost impossible to not get some kind of inspiration of some sort.

Talk to people, have people who are interested look at your work and ask them what they think would make it better. brain storm, that's the key to any success

School has one advantage in that respect: You can spend some time, be it free time or time when you're reviewing something you already know, designing ideas on paper. I purchase a spiral notebook every year for this exact purpose and always fill it up.

Psh! I go to school and I'm not in a slump! Raspberry!

All I can say, Red, is that the phase you're going through's absolutely normal. Every game maker goes through it at some points. It really sucks to be dry on ideas but want to make something.

Just hang in there. The fire always rekindles! Happy

Bleh, I've been an OHR slump for 2 years. Oookay...

Finally I think I've got a partner who'll do all the parts that stress me out (tilemaps...grrrr) so hopefully I'll pull out soon.

Advice? Don't keep pushing it. Take a complete break for like a week or so. Then come back refreshed. Happy

I agree with Aethereal in the sense that school is a great time to think and plan out your game. It forces you away from the computer so you can't simply just throw random ideas into a game without any organization.

It's the homework load that I don't like. Then you can go on the computer and work on your game or sit there and study calculus or biology. It's so hard for me to get into my studies when I look up and see my vacant computer staring me right in the face Sad... . Life's not fair...

Hehehe. I spend all day doodling ideas. Most of them are stupid though. But some on the other hand, can be soooo cool! I also doodle up my comic book too. School is where I get most of my ideas.

Usually in a some of the more practical lessons I get many ideas on what I can include in my game. Now I am studying Greek Mythology and there are just tons of interesting facts that an entire game could be based off of. Of course it's a college class so I don't get much "doodling" time...

Plus, a game can get more interesting if it's based off of some event that happened in history because we can relate to that. After studying biology I played parasite eve and I gained a whole new perspective and appreciation of the game because I understood how everything was happening.

I go through spurts of making my game, and long drawn out slumps. Last one lasted 4 months. I play around with psp7 to get graphical ideas, and listening to music increases my output. i keep avoiding the game, then i finally decide to knuckle down and get the bit (eg drawing 30 walkabout graphics) over and done with.

*Sigh* Us poor opressed artists Ha ha ha!
