A member who has sence dissapeared kinda had an idea like that and made a short tutorial. I found it quite informative. You could try it.

Good old Serg.

I hope to god that that helps because it took me forever to find. I forgot the name of it for a while.

Leroy, you may have just made my day.

Well, probably not, since I was having such a good day anyway, but I'm still happy to have that script. Of course, this only means more work for me, but I'm happy to do it, since it looks so good. I'll try to get some screenshots with the portrait textboxes soon.

No. Serg made your day! Ha ha ha!

No. No problem. But the early bird gets the worm in this case. I am sure someone else might have pointed it out if I hadn't. Oh, and buy a Graphics tablet. I can't imagine what my life would be like without one. Oh no. I can. Never mind.

Ah, yes, the Graphics Tablet. The way the important things are in bold reminds me of a lot of Enix games.

I can't imagine what my life would be like without 80 to 100 dollars right now, unfortunately. Christmas is on its way, though. Hooray for Judeo-Christian commercialism!

...I mean... Oookay...

Better tablets tend to go for $150+. The $80-$100 ones aren't really the best for drawing.

Just so you know, Leroy, it is working beautifully. It's kind of a pain to deal with, having to put some fifty NPCs on a map every time you want to show a little dialogue, but the effect is beautiful. Screenshots forthcoming.

Anyway, back on topic... Any of you graphical wizards have any immediate suggestions that don't involve money?

Serg would be proud, miss Ajora.

A solution that doesn't involve money? Hm. Well, I think you said that you might be able to get one for Christmas, right? But if that involves you spending money, then all you can do is look for a good deal. Try specialty stores. They tend to have good deals on those kinds of things. Going to a convenience store might end up costing more... Because, well... Because of convenience.

What I meant was immediate suggestions involving things I can do before I get the Tablet from the Southern Cave.

I think these keep getting worse. I have a valid excuse, maybe: since I decided to use these as 40x60-pixel textbox profiles, I have started caring much less about how the CGs look. Hey, the game still looks good!

The game's villain. Helmet somewhat inspired by Kain's... could you tell?

Clara, the healer-type.

Wow. These are awful. But they look really good in-game at about 25% size.

The Kain-Helmet guy looks like he doesn't have eyes. Maybe some shading in that area might help...

The first one does accomplish being ominous and diabolical looking. The organic shape of the head is something I would like to compliment on. There are too many overrated, anime, enormous almond heads out there these days. He seems misshapen, though. Perhaps it is because his mouth may be too far down his chin. You may concider a little more support in that region.

The second one I swear I first thought was a man. That's not a problem right now. I see some pretty impressive improvements in shading in the face here. This is a very intensely bright contrast to the previous, maniacal looking character.

Overall, good improvement. You must be doing something right.

Finally, a good one.

I let the pencil show through a little here, revealing how much better I am as a pencil artist. His name is Nathan and he's the last major character I needed to draw. I still haven't scanned some of them, but when I drew this during one of my classes today I fell in love with him and had to scan and color him first. I'm thinking the back of his neck needs a little more shading, but you gotta love that hair.

As you may have noticed, I ran out of ideas for the background. Oh well.

Now, YOU are on a roll. The shading under the chin, lower lip, and above the eye are so much better now. The neck and lower jaw is nicely proportioned as well.
Everything below the neck could use some practice, though. Maybe add some cloth shading is what I am thinking.
Once again, this is some improvment.

Ah, once again a familiar face. You may remember James from the old screenshots. No relation to Mr. Paige, I think. This one is rushed again: his cheekline is really wonky and the background is a no-effort gradient. Again, I'm more interested in making it look good in-game.

Speaking of which, I don't think I've posted any of the reduced-size portraits, besides the one screenshot of Baram talking. Here's another sample:

Nathan, as seen above. Click to enlarge. I don't care for what color reduction does to these portraits, but it reminds me of the Tactics Ogre portraits in a charming sort of way.

I think the shape of the head is a little obscure. It doesn't appear as symetric as the others you did. Maybe you tried a different style this time, but the new one's head looks like the squash I grew beside my house last year.

Other than that, there is barely any shading on it's face. I would imagine its in the spot light or something. However, I don't know if I would want to be in the spot light if I didn't have any eyebrows. And I noticed that pretty much noone you draw has eyebrows of any kind. Was this intended? I think they would look a BIT better with just one more light line above their eyes. I sometimes forget to put them on when I draw too.
Its a matter of style, I suppose.
