Well, it depends on the shade of blue.

Like this blue is soft and pleasent.

But this blue is dark and can be mistaken for saddness.

Although, I like turquoise. It's nice and soft, and neither bright, or sad Big grin. It can be whatever you want it to.

Hmmm... turquoise is a cross breed. It has the best of both hues, green and
blue. I suppose blue is okay, as long as it isn't too dark.

What time does everybody usually go on IRC at the castle?
I have tried several times but nobodies home.

Hey, cube. I posted a story of an idea for a game. It's on your forum,
check it out!

Mcw, How 'bout a new signature? I've got a suggestion...
how about: when you screw don't spew!

Turquoise and Teal always confuse me because they're both mixes between green and blue. I think that Turqoise is a bit more green and Teal is a bit more blue, though...

So let me get this straight...

blue is okay as long as it's not dark.
dark blue is depressing
turquoise is cool, or rather a cool green.
red is vibrant and headstrong, also loving!*
yellow is erm... mellow!
green is natural, tranquil and lax.**
lavender is the colour of mourning.***
black is that of death and darkness
white is heavenly, pure and lifeful.

*red can also mean angry: "he saw red" (also danger)
**green can also mean disease or sickness, an alien colour.
*** the lavender plant can have soothing qualities.

there, have I left any out? this could be quite useful when
designing game characters, don't you think?

So planethunter, are you trying to say that red is actually all those things? Cause my screen name happens to have the color red in it, so hehehehe that must mean that I am all those things you said. Didn't know you were the sentimental type, lol, just kidding.

I don't see how that would be useful in planning characters. I don't think you should make them wear colors based on their emotional state (well, unless they're at a funeral, then they should probably wear black).

Colors don't really matter, because they don't really have characteristics. Sure, white is generally associated with purity, and blah blah blah, but it doesn't really matter. It's like red, the color people associate with heat, even though we know the hottest stars are blue, and only the coldest ones are red...

Isn't it funny though how ever since FF1, 'white' magic has been considered 'healing' magic? Would anybody go against grain and call lightning or wind magic 'white' magic? All I'm saying is that colors do give off some kind of impression, so they do matter a little. Not a whole lot though, I'd agree.

Yellow can also mean sickness or decay, and white can mean purity in a harsh, sterile sense.
And there's nothing wrong with a blue monk. Blue's a nice color, and it doesn't have to represent sadness. It can represent health, even, since water usually appears to be blue.
For a really good use of color metaphors, read The Great Gatsby. God, that was a good book. One of the best I've read in school.

I don't use 'White Magic' or 'Black Magic' in any of my games, because I still feel that's largely an FF cliche. A better name than a White Mage is a Cleric or Priest. A better name than a Black Mage is a Wizard or Sorcerer. Then for other types of magic there are various -mancer types, like Geomancers and Necromancers.

White can also mean a lot of other things. It could mean spittle, or non-biodegradable styrofoam, or idiot redneck racist pride. I don't think colors should really be used for anything other than coloring. I think it's foolish to be believe a certain part of a spectrum of light has its own personality or meaning.

the whole thing with colours is that it works on a sub-conscious level.
You may forget that your breathing but your still breathing, aren't you...
the same with colours. You tend not to notice them, but they can have a
profound effect on you. I'm not saying that if you stay a black room for a few weeks you'll turn evil. Ho, No! But your mind judges things by colour,
you may not like it, you may not even no it, but it's there.

Btw, last time I checked lighting wasn't all white it has
some hues of bright blue in it. And yes symbolism does kinda confuse the
idea of colour judgement.

Any colours you choose are fine, just remember:
If you want your character to be calm, use complementary colours.
If you want your character to 'active' use opposite hues.

Blue is an okay colour to use on a character, just don't over do it. Happy

and yes, in general black is evil, and white is good. In general.

For the record you ought to choose wisely when chosing colour schemes,
the player will have to look at that character for most of the game.

well I suppose blue represents water which in turn is pure.

I myself haven't actually gotten round to playing the FF series.
It's success has defined the rpg genre and will probably continue
to do so...

But I honestly don't see what's the big excitement about, but who am I
to judge. If it is so good what exactly am I missing anyway?

And yes, I do know the ohr's battle system was based on an early version
of the FF series.
