Does anybody know why my sound won't work anymore? I have windos 98 a 400mhz processor and just installed netscape 7.1 and the winamp that came with it. I think netscape didsomething because on my other computer that i did not install netscape or winamp on the sound works perfectly.

First, use better grammar. Second, describe the problem with more detail, because niether Winamp nor Netscape could disable your sound card.

Yeah, did your sound work on this comuter before installing Netscape or WinAMP?

They seem like a silly questions, but are your speakers plugged in? Are they on? Are they hooked up to the computer? What's your volume set at? Does this compouter even have a sound card? It can often be the simplest problems that have the biggest consequences.

If none of that helps, then you're going to need to get more specific 'cos from what you've said, none of us can identify the problem very well.

The sound works with everything but bam files. The speakers are part of the computer and can not be disconnected. The sound is turned on. my computer used to play bam files before I installed netscape and winamp. Is this better?

I have found that Winamp can disable BAM playing sometimes, if it's running at all. Try disabling the Winamp Agent (the icon in the lower-right corner, near the clock on the Start bar) by right-clicking and closing it. That might help.

better yet, disable the winamp agent and run winamp when you need it...

i can't see how winamp can disable bam... i play winamp and bam at the same time without trouble.

It's probably under certain circumstances that Mortem and Me have both achieved...

And, yes, Mortem, that information is much better. At first I thought you just meant sound in general...

Actually, I have experienced extreme difficulty in getting bam files to play on windows 98 computers. I believe that one of the updates actually kills the ability of dos programs to access sound. There may also be a settings difficulty.

I upgraded to XP awhile ago, so now I have absolutely no problems at all. Bless NT based operating systems!

XP better than Windows 98? What are you talking about...?

OHR sound worked better on my Windows 98 computer than on XP, and now I have to put up with the lag that appears in the game with VDMS on.

Also, I believe I gave a link to the OHR faq for all the threads related to this topic.

It works instantaneously for me and I receive no problems. Actually, XP and the accompanying standard soundcard have given me less trouble than any other soundcard/system configuration I have yet used. I believe CN had a better combination, though. What exactly was it again...?
