theres a coupla things you need todo to get a firm place in CP, I'm still new but I'm not a beginner. So for the never ending list of new people just take a look at the list
#1 download some games
-Before you jump out the window and start making an RPG it's best to see what other people did. It helps get a good idea about graphics and what looks good. As a really good example I would download Final Fantasy H it gives you a idea of well made maptiles.
Genises(er genesis whatever) is also a good title since it really pushes the envelope with OHR graphics cutscenes etc.
#2 post on the boards- The story time board is good to see if your storys are a masterpiece, good or a unoriginal piece of crap.
#3fool around in OHR
- no need to put 'My first game' on CP if it's some horrible demo that you're just gona forget about and leave. Making the first few demos is good to see what you can do and to experiment.
(As for mysef I've made several demos but then I download a game that gives me a better idea and I start agin)
#4 Make a game
sit down with your developed idea and plot and whatever features you were planning to put in the game and start making the game. I'm still in this part with a few games in the workes, The Path Down the MUlticolored road (comedy) and Age of Fire (fantasy {still only % done})
The hardest part of making a game is getting it off the ground when you cliclk create new game. But after you have a foundation of attacks maptiles walkabouts and the first few levels goings get much easier
Good luck- BattleBlaze

Other good things are proper grammar, learningtousethespacebarappropriately, and MaStERInG tHE CApS aND ShiFt KeY.
And saying that's your smiley is kinda dumb, because 90% of the people who join up claim it every time. I hate that thing. _________________ But enough talk, have at you! |

I've only been here a few days and I already hate that smiley someone should delete it from the emoticons menu.
And another suggestion for newbies is to not post of topic. (Like I did above oops.) |

Don't worry, it's always the right time to insult the devil smiley. _________________ Locked

Alright, vote to remove the devil smiley since I'm seeing a bit of "get rid of it" around.
To keep this post on-topic, Battleblaze, your heart is in the right place, but you're unfortunately repeating what is said in several places (board etiquette, Hamster Republic, etc.), not to mention it's kind of showing you in a hypocritical light, which is something I'm sure you don't want to be in. _________________

Of course, if you actually want to make progress on your game, you're better off not "joining" the community, which would include posting on the boards, since doing so would ultimately distract you more than help you. You might be better off running the story past your closest friends first. You may also want to hold off releasing it until it's finished so that you guarantee that it gets finished. Joining the community, posting messages, and releasing demos have a charming effect of instilling poor work ethics into people (as I myself can attest to).
And some people are obviously immune, but most agree that making a name for yourself here is the worst thing you can do for progress' sake. That's my theory why games are only completed by those who rarely if ever grace these message boards.
And just to clear up confusion, my definition of finished games apply to epics like Arfenhouse 3 and Walthros, not the half-hour contest games that have the finished status. Even I have one of those. _________________ Progress Report:

Battleblaze, it's good that you want to let new people to CP know how to fit in, but in all honesty, you haven't been here long enough to establish foundation here, and due to that, there are other lines you are crossing in this thread that you are not yet aware of.
To be honest, I tend to spam at times, so I don't have real room to talk, but I want you to know before you fall in the hands of CN, who will not be as forgiving as I am... _________________

Actually Setu, after the "Rate your Admin" thread and severe attacks by other mods, I've basically been forced to retreat in any action against the balantly retarded on CP. Apparently my love of interesting conversation is not shared by the rest of CP's community, who prefer newb speak. Oh well, at least I'll always control the Review War's forum with an iron fist... |

Well , I think that Chaos Nyte's attempts to kill spam(yes , most of which made by me) and try to have intelligent topics is very noble rather that Arfenhousing all over the place . BattleBlazes , nice of you to help , but wait until your have been around for at least 3 months before you try to save the world from n00bs .

I'd point out that this week's episode of "CP for newbies" is up, and filled with more wonderful browser lagging goodness for everyone. There's also a tribute to the original OHR satyrist of newbies, Misteroo, in this week's episode, so check it out. If anyone actually tries to follow the exact instructions in it go ahead and ban the idiot. |

You also forgot rule number one:
LOOK OVER YOUR DAMN REPLY BEFORE YOU POST AND REPAIR THE N00BSPEAK ERRORS
Aeth, fear not, I have the solution:
Move the flaming smiley into the "show more emoticons" list. No spammer would ever think of looking there, and we need not give up the smiley (so we can piss the spammers off when they ask where it went). _________________ "It is so great it is insanely great." |
