So here’s the gimmick. Go download Generic RPG( http://www.castleparadox.com/forum/gamelist-display.php?game=377) off the gamelist and give it a whirl. You’ll notice it’s short, not a whole lot of fun, and ugly. Well that’s where you come in! See the poll included with this post? Just select what you feel needs to be updated about Generic RPG the most! Whichever category earns the highest amount of votes is what part of the game gets updated next! However, there is a catch. There will only be 10 updates to Generic RPG. Which means if all of you keep voting for say, “graphics” at the end of the process, Generic RPG will be very pretty and very boring. So it’s up to you to play each update and carefully weigh what you feel is the most lacking element.

Not only that, but all of you are free to offer suggestions about where the plot should head, new enemy types to add, and even suggest characters for our hero to meet up with. Got a great idea for a new spell? Post here with as much information as possible about it and it might just be added to the next update! If there’s anything you’d specifically like to see added to Generic RPG, feel free to post about it!

Explanations of the poll choices-

Graphic Update- What it says. I’ll update all the graphics in game and make Generic RPG nicer to look at.

Story Update- The current story of the game gets a facelift, with more depth and better dialogue. This also means more NPCs and even side quests! However, the game will still end at the same point it does now.

Battle Update- More monsters, more attacks, more items, more fun!

Length Update- At this point, that would mean an update that takes the quest roughly 30 minutes to complete. The length would be focused on story-driven plot and new locations.

Gimmick Update- Using plotscripting, some unique feature would be added to Generic RPG that would be inherent to the gameplay and offer a new level of playability. It’s random, and could be anything from pet raising, item creation, or even special shops.

So that’s it! Play Generic RPG( http://www.castleparadox.com/forum/gamelist-display.php?game=377) and then cast your vote!

this game was really fun ^_^. the battles were exceptionally fast for levelling, but who cares. it gives this sense you were really kicking ass (which you really do).

completed it with flying colours, too bad it's really short. so i vote length.
(i also vote length, so that when the game is at a decent length CN will need to do more when the other categories are voted <hopefully>)

I vote for ten gimmicks.

That seems to be all that contest games are good for.

Most of these fit together, though.. You can't update a gimmick without updating the plot, or without updating graphics, etc.

However, gimmick is my choice(and it seems to have broken a tie). The Graphics are fine, I have no idea why people are voting it so highly.

What the hell are you talking about? When you first start the game the only battle you can realistically win is against one spammer, and once you get your first level you just destroy everything.

This time I'll vote for battles, but in the future, what should we vote for if we want stuff to cost less, or music that isn't crappy?

EDIT: I don't see why so many people are voting for graphics. The maptiles were bad, but nothing else was. The hero and enemy graphics looked fine, they were just simple.

The graphics aren't necessary for the game to be fun, the battles are good enough at this point, and I don't feel a need for any gimmicks. I'd like to see the game be a little longer in order to tell the direction it's going.

I vote for length. Graphics are OK becuase I can tell what things are. Some more length so maybe there can be a little development in characters or story. Pretty fun game though. 20 minutes to beat on Lvl 12 with best of everything.

I vote graphics. I just can't enjoy a game much if the world map consists of only 4 different, 1-2 color tiles. The only really necessary choices are graphics, length, and story. So, obviously, those are the choices I'm going to be voting for throughout the making of this game.

I think the earlier polls should have at least one or two gimmick wins, as they'd be best done when they're there from the near start, so the rest of the game can take further advantage of them rather than simply tacking them on to the game.

SDHawk makes a very good point, so next vote, vote gimmick. Also should vote plot before you vote length, so you have a better idea of how long the game needs to be.

TM, length could easily changed by just adding a few rooms to maps, but I agree with the point you made.

EDIT:
To answer the question about 'gimmicks', I was thinking of a TOWNSPEOPLE SCARED-ness system.
Like.. for example. After 20 battles, an npc walks the streets, after like, 50, about 10 npcs walk the streets, after like, 70, people will ask to join you.
Or maybe just some mazes in the maps.. etc..

I wanna hear everyone else's ideas.

I'd like to hear everyone elses ideas too. If you voted for a certain part of the game to be improved, then you probably had something in mind, so why not voice it? I'd love to hear people asking to improve the graphics also make suggestions for how(Put wind chimes EVERYWHERE!) and I'm sure all of you have cool gimmick idea you've always wanted to see in game.

Also, this has already proved interesting in that no one feels that story should come first in the design of an RPG.

How about other heroes that only join when your morality level is at a certain number. By that, I mean you start with a score of zero, every time you beat a boss, a point is added. You also get or lose points when presented with a moral choice, as in, you have ten dollars, do you buy a ladder and save a kitty stuck in a tree, or do you spend it on booze and hookers? Most requisite characters will join with a smaller number of points, but you can have secret characters that join with either an exceptionally high or low number of points. Like if Hitler were a character, you'd need at least negative twenty points, and if Jesus were a character you'd need twenty points.

And Rinku, I don't care which one is more moral by capitalist standards, I'm using them merely as iconic avatars of good and bad.
