EVOS has been working on the DEMO for Stenmele Osmium for over a year now and it's still not finished. So, we have suggested we create the game in episodes so that we can get something accomplished and released. The episodes would have from a half hour to an hour of gameplay each. But we have not decided if we really want to do this. Your opinion would be greatly appreciated. _________________ Initiate game advertisment NOW! Stenmele Osmium

How about you make the decision on your own and do whatever you decide to do? Because I honestly don't give a flying fuck. _________________ UP DOWN UP DOWN LEFT LEFT RIGHT RIGHT A B START |

Yeah, ok there skippy. How about anybody else? Does the episode idea sound interesting? Would you hate it or love it. Or would it really be quite annoying to play an RPG cut up into smaller games. Do you think it is practical? _________________ Initiate game advertisment NOW! Stenmele Osmium

asking for advice on how to make your game is terrible. not just because the people here are so retarded, but also in the laziness factor. |

Make the game how you want to make it. Include things you want to see in it. It's your game after all. Make it the way you want. _________________ ---------------Projects----

to be honest with you, the whole episode thing appeals to me very little. The player will just lose whatever extra progress they made (levelling, special items, what have you) with each new episode. I'd feel no accomplishment beating that final boss with characters who I hardly leveled up or bought equipment for. _________________ My name is...

There's an article on splitting rpgs over several files so player progress would not neccesarily be lost when you start the next part. _________________

Why is everyone here always such a bunch of dicks when someone asks for advice? Isn't that what this forum is supposed to be about? Discussing the creation of OHR games? Besides, it isn't as if he's asking how his story should go or what he should name the bad guy or anything lazy like that. He's asking about opinions on a very specific way of implementing the game, which I think is a pretty legit way to use this forum. Chill out.
To answer Corak's question, I'd personally be very turned off by the idea of playing the game in episodes. I doubt any game would be able to hold my interest enough for me to wait for months between each half hour to one hour bits of gameplay, especially considering there's no guarantee the next episode will ever be released. Besides, I don't feel particuarly compelled to download a game I know I won't be able to see the end of. It's the same reason I never download demos. On the off chance I actually get interested in the game, I'm going to be disappointed when it ends right in the middle of the action. Be patient and release the whole game. I think it'll be worth it. |

Ah, it was just an idea we were kicking around. Perhaps we should devote a little more time to RPG making anyway. Thank you all for your input. It's good to know that CP is still the place for decent advice on RPG making. Camdog, I would offer you a drink, but the monitor keeps getting in the way. _________________ Initiate game advertisment NOW! Stenmele Osmium

I agree with Camdog. Some people get to angry when advice is asked. If people make the games the way they want it to be right away, it might not be that good, like art help, game design... yeah... basically all the topics below this topic group. |

Belated apologies for my conduct earlier. I was kinda having a bad day: working long hours, tired, grumpy, etc. While that's no excuse for being an ass, I'd still like to apologize for that. However, it remains that I don't care myself how you do it. It would really depend on the game: certain story and gameplay types lend themselves to episodic format, while others require a continuous playing experience. It's really up to you, but play with both ideas to see which fits best. _________________ UP DOWN UP DOWN LEFT LEFT RIGHT RIGHT A B START |
