Like last year, I'd like to run a Halloween Contest. Now, I know there's a few big name projects coming this year (Halloween Quest 2, Pitch Black 2, Scary Game 3, Thanksgiving Quest) so, I'd like to make things fair to everyone. For those of you who want a challenge, or don't already have a game made, you can begin an entry on October 1st, and have until Midnight, November 1st. (So that you don't have to miss doing stuff Halloween Night). And, for those with a project in the works, so long as it's released by that deadline, and is specified as having been worked on BEFORE October 1st, it'll be allowed to be voted on in a separate category. (Both are elligible for the General Category, but only a Deadlined game is elligible for the Deadline catergory). Have as many people as you like, whatever theme you like, though know that the voting will be ranked mainly by the Fun and Scariness of the game, and that Music and Graphics will not account for as much of the vote. I don't have the EXACT percentages figured up yet, but I'll think of something fair.

Edit: Enter as many times as you like.

Is scariness necessary? Scary Game isn't really a scary game.

Don't worry Moog, Halloween Quest 2 isn't scary until the end. But last year it just goes to show that the fun factor of the game can get ya a lot of votes. That's how HQ1 got so many votes last year. But thanks Giz, this kinda inspires me to work on it a bit faster. And I love the fact there's a special division for it. And is March 2004 too early for it to have been started from, or does it matter?

Though they won't be directly judged, you must realize that both graphics and music set the atmosphere, which is totally necessary if you are going to make a creepy game.

The graphics I made are dark, and theres blood and stuff. But my computer doesn't play BAM, so I randomly chose music for the game. Oookay...

Music sets the mood and atmosphere of your game. If you can't do that correctly to capture both of these for your game it's best to just leave the game with no music. When I didn't have VDMS, I didn't have any music in Halloween Quest 2. Why pick bad things to ruin a good game?

No. If you can guess what goes in, but can't hear it, that is certainly better then dead silence. Unless silence is what the game needs (think Clock Tower: The First Fear), which is highly doubtful in 99% of all OHR games.

Put music in before you release it. But if you can hear BAMs, you'd darn better actually try to pick out songs that fit the mood.

Yes, Scariness is a requisite. Sure, Scary Game wasn't scary, and it's a great game, but, I think Scariness should factor into the scores. So your game might pull down a 10 in fun, and a 3 in scary. You're still 10 points up on someone who got a 2 in scary, and a 1 in fun. I'm not saying your game HAS to be scary, but you'll have a better chance of obtaining more points if it is,.
