Okay, this year's contest for the OHR composers of CP is here, thanks to SDHawk, Jabbercat, and Sew for actually giving me some ideas for it.

The Objective: Take this picure:

Because everyone interprets art differently, the object of this contest is to compose a piece that you believe fits this picture according to your poetic interpretation of it. In other words, if you feel that it has a creepiness to it, then compose something creepy that goes with it. If you think it has a flighty feel, then go for that.

What to do with your entry: Post your entry and then, in a paragraph or two, describe what you felt from looking at the picture that inspired you to compose what you did.

Due date for submissions will be the November 10, 2004. If you enter any later than that date, then your entry will be invalid.

I gotta say, that is a really good contest idea.

I'm not much of a composer, but I have what?? A month? I can probably get something alright by then.

Poem: (freeverse???): Bent Hell

Black sky, turn to dawn
Turn to dawn it never comes
Black sky of ever night
Ever dawn that never comes
That swirls reality at it's door
The darkness comes to realize
It bends, it twists, it finds no right
The darkness realizes
That it is mixing and swirling
The chair, the tower, the trees
It burns reality for what it is
The man stands, the edge of his hell
And he stares, and the dark dawn
The dead realities, the darkened dawn
The chair, the tower, the trees
And feels himself bending with it
Bending with reality itself
He falls, so slowly
In the half dawn light that never came

I'll start off with one of my beliefs. I belive that everyone who goes to hell has their own personal section of it. I mean, you can't torture a guy with fire if he doesn't fear that at all. So this is the man's personal hell, a reality that doesn't make any sense at all. Oh yeah, and it's creepy cause I was in a creepy mood. And as for the song part, can I skip that? I can olny write, not compose.

An actual piece of music is wanted, aka: Midi or Mp3. But a poem with the entry couldn't hurt.

It said poem: Immidiate response: Poem. Sorry, but you're instructions were unclear. Compose could mean compose a poem as well as a song. In the instructions you did not specify that you had to compose a song, so I reverted to the title: Poetry.

Can the song have lyrics, or is that taboo?

Yeah, the fact that it was IN THE MUSIC FORUM must've been so confusing.

Poetry is music in its own way. Ever go to those poetry clubs?

You write poetry, you compose music Raspberry! In any case, it's a grand idea Happy I'll definitely give it a try.

Last year's contest had anonymous voting (which I ruined, kind of). Shall we break that tradition this year?

I'm going to assume that we will.

http://rmsephy.250free.com/Fire.mid

What I felt from the picture: Ardor and chaos. I mean, there's fire in the background. How could you NOT feel ardor? Everything in the picture is whacked out of proportion (except maybe that tower in the back). How could you NOT see chaos? I figured the closest thing that combined ardor with chaos was a warlike attack theme, so that's what I tried to compose. There's my paragraph.

THE GREAT RMSEPHY! RMSEPHY THE GREAT! FIGHTING TO MAINTAIN HIS RANK A TITLE!! WILL HE SUCCEED?!?! NOBODY KNOWS!!! NOW BEGINS THE GREAT FIGHT BATTLE!!!

Perhaps I must fight to defend my class S rank. *gloat gloat*

I'm thinking about it... not sure if I'll have time for this or not... (I'm in the middle of writing an opera)

Even if you win this one again, I'll steal the throne as soon as you go off on your mission. Big grin
