Post1: Since my walkabouts for Verdimea weren't very popular, does anyone suggest any walkabouts (OHR or not) that are worth studying?

Post2: I'm also studying Maptiles in other RPGs (commercial, but you can suggest an OHR game as well.) At the moment, I am studying Secret of Mana 3 (I believe). Are there any other games anyone recommends studying? If so, please give me the Japanese (did I spell that right?) name for it if applicable.

Thanks.

Or, are you kidding?

May I recommend that you start smaller? Study one of the games made here. There are a lot of good ones that are not too complicated, and you can open some of them in custom and study them up close. Pixel by pixel.

I only study Secret of Mana on short bursts. I look at Fenrir's games a lot.
Secret of Mana's trees have started to grow on me, and my trees are much better. But what do you suggest I look at?

Edit: I'm afraid to only look at one game at a time. I'm afraid I'll begin to steal. (For example, in my first "game", I stole the Wingedmene walkabout style.) That's why I'm looking for multiple games to look at.

You really need to get out more. I've had fungus start growing on me, but trees?

and my trees are much better.

Tell me I misunderstood this.

(Edit) Someday I'll get the quote tag figured out.

Heh, perhaps I misunderstood your misunderstanding of him, but I'm sure what he's saying is that his trees are better than what they used to be, NOT that they're better than SoM's trees.

..anyway,im over it,and here's my advice: stick with big headed /sd sprites. the head, when big,is the most noticeable part of your hero,in that way the player can easily see and distinguish the hero's distinctive features. it's like anime; anime artist decided to color their character's hair far from their normal hair color (black) and used different and weird hairstyles so that viewers can easily distinguish an individual character from another without knowing everything regarding the character.

SOM3 is fine to study, but make sure you're looking at tsgumos tutorial at the same time.

What's wrong with looking at fenrir's contrary to yours? I like Fenrir's NPCs and the majority of his battle graphics better then yours.

..i know that..and wasn't talkin bout the graphics itself,Shadowiii.I'll PM you..
..as for Fenrir's yeah, they're great, but most of the time he just change the hero's face when theyr'e hurt or weak (just making their eyes partially closed, making it smirk a bit, etc) instead of drawing a new set of graphics that actually show that the hero is really hurt/weak.
..Shadowiii, how could you..? Crying

Hang in there, Adrian. Don't soil your reputation now.

Calehay: Just play a lot of the games and study the good graphics as you go (but be careful not to get too close to the screen). It's fun AND educational.

Try your own style, then continously refine it till it is crystal pure. Be original, and noteworthy, but if you have to, use various references to make your work better. (E.g. study how characters show facial expressions, eye types. are all different) Pick whichever suits you.
