Out of curiostity, would it be possible to make a first person game? I dont know if you would have to use plotscripting really well, or make a ton of maptiles, or what. But is is actually possible?

Theoretically, yes. But it would suck. (Unless you're thinking something along the lines of Bard's Tale or all those old D&D-style games.)

You're better off using an engine made for that kind of thing.

I think it's possible I have this theory I never tried out yet. I think but I'm not sure and do not quote me on this but, I think you can make a first person game without scripts. I think if you just make the heros walk about graphics invisible or do not make them at all and make certain maptiles that look like a sky and stuff you could pull it off. I've been thinking about this theory but never tried it. To make a the game adventure is when your going to need scripts.

Dude, haven't you played Pitch Black 1? A 1st person OHR game can be made using lots of "siderooms" and your hero would be a cursor.

you could make a game like shivers or myst (pitch black is kind of like these but imagine the whole game being a bunch of 'side rooms') in fact i was thinking of doing something like this, but it would take a lot of work to get everylast one of shots completed and looking nice

Yeah, the myst like 1st person engine could be acheived rather easily with the aide of lots of plotscripting, and while a smooth fps-like engine on the ohr is probably possible to the hopeless optimist, it's probably the most wasteful thing you can do with your time.

I tried it with my Metroid remake a couple years back, during the O:OHR age. I hope to God none of you downloaded that. It sucked horribly.

where do I download it? ... nah, just joking. Big grin

It would probably be easy to do 1st person gameplay by making the player do a continuos running/walking motion, while the arrow keys move the floor.

But the OHR wasn't meant for 1st person, so its probably not easy.

Well? Which is it then? Probably easy or probably not easy?

Whoa, this thread is old.

Setu, do you still have it? Even if it sucks, I still want to try it.

No, I don't still have it. Which is funny, because I think that I DO still have a copy of The Memphis Project on my old computer...

...and yeah! This thread is freaking old.

I made a FPS once in the OHR using tile-writing tricks. But then you remember aiming won't work correctly and realize you're using the wrong engine for such a thing.

If you want to make FPSs, you can do it relativily easy with Game Maker, and there's a bunch of tutorials on the subject at the following link:

GameMaker can be downloaded at
