I've been workijng pretty hard on a game, and I want to post it when done. But I want people to try it, and I noticed that many games have vary few downloads and no reviews. How can I avoid this?
BTW, this is not an "OMG teh donut lord is evil! Kill him, save teh world" kind of games. The graphics are not Cresent Dream style, but they're decent. And the battles are balanced.
It'll be a few weeks before I'm done, though. (I have school to go to, you know) _________________ http://hellyeahmyownurl.spaces.live.com/default.aspx?_c02_owner=1

If it's good, then people will play it. Don't worry about downloads, some of the crummiest games on the site have a ton of downloads for no reason whatsoever. But if the community likes it, they will play it, and they will give you feedback. So just try your best to make the best game you can. _________________ ---------------Projects----

Yeah, pretty much, just give it time. And another thing that you should be forewarned of is the fact that, in this community, there are some good games that do not get their due respect as other crappy games that get massive downloads and good grades. So when you scroll through the gamelist, just remember to be your own judge of a game's quality. _________________

to get lots of downloads, post a bunch of threads on gameFAQS that link to the zip with no explanation.
... Now, to get LEGITIMATE ones; show screenshots in a post and link at the end of the post. (The idea is, we see good pictures, we try the game) |

Those ideas work great. However, I suggest advertisin' when your game is OUT/DONE/FINISHED/READY. Advertising on MIRC is not a bad idea. Now making a thread on CP could work, but it should be an "announcement" thread. I don't see any harm in it. Those techniques of advertising 'ave all been done before.
I wish you luck. _________________ Planning Project Blood Summons, an MMORPG which will incinerate all of the others with it's sheer brilliance...

..you could search for independent rpg gaming-related sites in the net; they usually host games made by amateur developers like us,then when you see some link that says "add a game" or something,go there and put the link of your game in Castle Paradox.havent done too much of it yet but i would work.
..oh,and dont worry about how many have downloaded your game, what's important is that you enjoyed making it. |

PHC, your post isn't really adding anything to this thread. However, Adrian, your response is just as enflammatory, if not more. I will admit, I find the smileys annoying, but such a request could really be more diplomatically worded. And Leroy, your reply is ENTIRELY pointless, and is only encouraging a possible conflict.
Now, to return to the topic, the best ways to get more downloads, are first and foremost, have a good game. Secondly, get the game reviewed. Having it be listed with the letter A apparently helps, as does posting it on the HamsterRepublic Gamelist. Spamming Gamefaqs might get you hits, but I'd say it's rather dishonorable, and should be avoided at all costs. Games with favorable reviews tend to pick up 10x the number of downloads, so make sure you get that before you go through with the rest of the possible ways. Go to the Review Wars board, and request once (And only once, you don't want them to get pissy) for someone to review your game. They probably will, given a month or two. |

Oh, another way, make a game with "Final Fantasy" in the main title. That seems to be the reasoning behind why FFH got so many hits. _________________ ---------------Projects----
