For those of you with poor memory, I posted a song a while back with a promise of more to come. Well, that day has come, and I have a six song demo cd to share with you guys. You can check out our website, or just download the tunes directly below.
Pillars of Salt - Starts out as a pretty straightforward rock song which degenerates into a mathy scream-fest.
What's Up With the Breakdown? - A long intro with lots of guitar improv capped off with a loud finish.
Show Don't Tell - This is the first song we wrote and I think it touches on all the aspects of our band: pretty parts, loud yelling parts, quick dynamic changes, and lots of tempo and time signature changes.
This Will Be Everything - Our most slow and laid-back song. Also, the only one on this demo in a major key.
Lose 50 lbs. in 3 Seconds - Probably our loudest, most metal song. Check it out if you want to hear me screaming.
The Mountains in France do the Bonebag Dance - This is the song I posted before, but you might still want to check it out as it's mixed a bit better and has a couple of minor problems fixed.
We also have the songs in .ogg format, if you're into that kind of thing. It's all on the web page. Check it out, and let me know what you think!
The lyrics are also on the web site, if you're interested. |

i had been meaning to post this earlier, but i wanted to get a good listen in on the music first.
it's all pretty damn good. "This Will Be Everything" is my favorite, i like the beat alot in that one. personally, i think the scratchy yelling scary voice on "What's Up with the Breakdown" was a bit unnecessary, and kind of ruined the song for me, but i liked the:
"Treat my life like a jigsaw puzzle
Someday I can make it fit together...".
so yeah, i liked the music alot. only complaint i really have about it is the whole sound problem with it. i have to turn up the volume a bit just to hear it all.
EDIT: also, i was looking at the lyrics on the site. some of lyrics on there don't match up with the lyrics in the songs themselves... and theres a couple of spelling mistakes as well (not that that entirely matters). _________________

Thanks for the thoughts.
On lyrics: yeah, I know they aren't quite right. Matt still has to send me the updated lyrics. However, until then, they're mostly right, so I figure that's better than nothing.
On volume: this is something we definitely struggled with. We recorded using garage band, and when we exported the tunes, we did so with the master volume on the project turned all the way up. I don't understand why the end result is still a bit quieter that most modern recordings. However, I've noticed that demos you get at shows and things of that nature do tend to be quieter than professional recordings. Anyone have any idea why this is, or anyone with some experience doing amateur recording have any tips to correct this should we decide to record again?
Anyway, I don't think the sound differentail is all that bad, and we decided since we spent a shit-ton of time on this anyway, it'd be better to release it at a lower volume than to, say, do everything all over again. |

I'd use a nice little program called goldwave to boost the volume, and clean up any excess ambient noise.
It really is a pro's tool. And free, even. _________________ SACRE BLEU!

i haven't listened to any of these yet, but let me say that 'pillars of salt' is the best song title i've heard in a long while. _________________ Tower Defense Game |

Well, thanks. Judging from some of the stuff you've written, I imagine you'd like the lyrics as well, as they're about the misuse of religion, and how religion can be used to create fucked up situations.
And thanks for the advice on Goldwave. I'll be sure to check it out. |

Care to tell me why you think the singer is a major drawback? (I think he rules.) |

If anyone's interested, I updated the lyrics page on the site, so they should all be correct now. |
