When Dos programs are run on my computer, they go unusually fast. About a month ago, Dos programs were reeealy slow, and once in a while, they burst into this sudden...BURST of speed and the "ticks" are twice as fast as before. But now, this burst lasts through the entire programs. So when playing an OHR-game, I can only see one frame of an attack in the battle mode, and the hero walks way to quickly. Anyone else have this problem? Better yet, anyone know how to fix this?

I used to experience a similar phenomina. I use XP, which wasn't necessarily DOS friendly, I believe, and loaded up some programs to help with it.. If someone were to switch programs while DOS was running, the game would go to sleep. When someone would open the program again, it would appear to feel this sudden urge to catch up with what it missed, running five times faster than usual. However, it didn't last "forever". It stopped after a while.

So here is where I will try to help. Did you switch to another application while "custom"or "game" were running? If so, How long did you run the program again after you switched back? Mine would stop racing after about ten minutes...

What exactly WERE the circumstances here? Retrace your steps. If I can't help, someone is bound to know the answer to your enigma.

You could lower the priority of your DOS programs with the task manager.

There's a program called MoSlo that you can use to slow down any dos program. I would google that up.

Supposedly, VDMS will also help if it's too fast, but my computers are on the... ah... lets say "lower end" of the scale, so I've never had this problem.

this is a simple problem, infact it even happens with me sometimes.

This problem is called lagging.

Lagging slows down a program but then after it has gone really slow, the program goes extreamly fast to make up for what it did. This problem is usually fixed 2 ways:

1: delete playing.tmp then delete the file and download the file again and play it and see if that worked.

2: simply restart the computer.

If the problem persists....well...sorry can't help you there.

Lobonys, note the key word in that sentence, which I've conveniently highlighted for you.

Did you even read Lobo's full post? What he said is true, a lot of times in my old dos programs, they start off running slow, and then go insanely fast to compensate. It's particularly noticable in F-15 Strike Eagle, in which every few seconds of flight your aircraft completely stops, and then LEAPS forward as though someone had turned on time acceleration. After this, the menus always run lightning fast, and many other games don't even bother with the slowing but once, and then run insanely fast the rest of the program's length. I'd go along with the advice everyone else has given so far, but get off the guy's case, Pkmn.

Yeah, sorry... I've been working 14 hour days (14 hours of working, mind you) this week, and I'm not in the best of moods recently...
