I know this has been posted before, but, now that I thought of my own advanced elemental system, and I am looking for comments about it. By advanced I mean something besides Fire getting Ice, Ice getting Fire, Water getting Lightning, Lightning getting Water, and so on...

Water>Fire>Ice, Insects, Nature

Fire>Ice>Water, Reptiles

Ice, Lightning>Water>Fire

Nature>Lightning>Water, Machines

Fire, Flying>Nature>Arcane

Divine>Shadow>Divine

Shadow>Divine>Shadow, Undead

Nature>Arcane>Demons, Humanoids, Dragons

Elements are listed in bold; elements on the left can do extra damage to the element, and italics mean the element is immune to it. Elements on the right will take double damage from the bolded element.

Arcane can do a lot of damage to enemy types since it being just plain magic that all magic users use. There are few element spells that party members can learn. In my game there are very few magic users as well. Wind and Earth elements are rolled into Nature.

You are just putting a fresh coat of paint on the same old sepulcher, just like most of the other people who've brought up this subject.

I was going to formulate a response to this, but Unc said it.

Okay. I am not renaming elements and being that much creative. I want to keep the natural elements in there while adding three magical ones (shadow, arcane, divine) but thought it was different from other games, because, as I had said earlier, it is different from Fire gets Ice and Ice gets Fire, besides Shadow and Divine elements.

You're just making the arrows point different places. Pokemon did the same thing and while it did it well, it wasn't exactly revolutionary.

If you want to make elements more interesting, the important thing to work on is not the names, but how they relate to one another.

Example:

You have Ice, Water, and Fire.

Fire takes double damage from water and 1.5x normal damage from Ice.
Ice takes double damage from Fire and normal damage from Water.
Water resists Fire and is 'stunned' by Ice.

(Bear in mind that this system is flawed and unbalanced, but it's still more interesting than Final Fantasy's Fire > Ice > etc. Not that this one is bad; I use it myself and it makes a good default sytem)

Big problem with this is the OHR doesn't leave any room for customizing elemental effects. If you want anything changed here, you'll have to edit the source and distribute your own game.exe.

Here's something:

Go back to the basic elements, way back in ancient Greece, warm, cool, dry, wet. These elements can be combined to make the more famous elements like so:

Water=Wet+Cool
Fire=Dry+Warm
Earth=Dry+Cool
Wind=Wet+Warm

The other two combinations result in a neutral void. Perhaps this can be intergrated with some sort of system for combining spells to make something awesome, for example after preparing wind and and water spells, they could be cast simultaniously to make lighting, Earth and Fire to make a volcano, Water and Earth to make A glacier, and Fire and wind to make a sandstorm (that may seem like an earth-wind combination but they are opposites so they form a void). In theory, this system could go on forever af one wanted.
