Epic Marathon Voting (3rd)

Well, it’s been a few days since the end of the Epic Marathon Contest, so hopefully most of you have had time to acknowledge the fact that there are new games on the Game List. This is the official voting thread for those said games, so if you’ll feel so inclined, please vote for your favorites.

Here are the games you’ll be looking for:

Mynorety Whispers: Ties of Chaos by RedMaverickZero
Mynorety Whispers: The Mysterious Rogue by LeroyLeo
Mynorety Whispers: Mynorety Report by Rimudora
Mynorety Whispers: Not in the Face also by Rimudora
Mynorety Whispers: Spies of the Cradle by Retrogamer
And
Darkmoor Dungeon by Moogle1

Here are the voting rules:

Since there are fewer than ten entries this year, you will be allowed to rank each game accordingly (1 being best, 6 being worst).

Voters are only required to play the first ten minutes of each game before voting, although the designers would appreciate you playing through the whole thing.

Retrogamer’s game is not technically eligible for vote until he posts his official version sometime before voting ends. Voters will be permitted to recast their votes if he gets the game on the Game List before the end of the voting period (although a vote for his is not required as the game is late). If anyone out there has had the chance to play his game outside of the community, you may vote for it.

Rules on designer votes:

The normal point value for each vote is as follows: 1st place = 10 points, 2nd = 9, etc.

Designers may vote for their own games, but will only receive points according to how other people vote. For example, if the designer votes his game 3rd (8 points), at least four people have to also vote for his game at 3rd or better to receive the full point value. The minimum score for each vote is 4. If a voter fails to vote on a specific game, that game will automatically receive 4 points. A game will receive an additional point for any vote that matches the designer’s vote or better, up to the level the designer set.

At the end of the voting period, or sometime following if I slack off, I will publicly announce the Bonus/Penalties for each game according to the list outlines in the official contest thread. The voting score and the bonus/penalty score will then be combined to determine the winner of the contest.

At that point I will announce the prize (which I decided to go ahead and do despite the fact that less than eight people submitted games).

Previous Winners:

Year 1 – Uncommon
Year 2 – everybody dropped out
Year 3 – pending

And that’s that. Good luck, everyone.

Hopefully I covered all the bases.

Designers may also use this thread as a reflecting period if they wish.

5. Not in the Face
4. The Mysterious Rogue
3. Mynorety Report
2. Ties of Chaos
1. Darkmoor Dungeon

If there is a minimum 10 minutes regulation in place, I'm not sure that either of Rimudora's games qualifies. For the sake of having as many entries as possible, I'd suggest allowing them into the contest.

4. Darkmoor Dungeon (Nevermind. Still no budge.)
3. Mysterious Rogue (Wtf is this? Well, I need to give myself some pitty at least.)
2. Mynorety report (Very cool, but lacking.)
1. Ties of Chaos (A good effort.)

You'll have to point out to me what was buggy in Darkmoor. If not to defend your vote, then at least for my own purposes.

5 - Not in the Face
4 - Mynorety Report
3 - Mysterious Rogue - Interesting graphical style, with the top-down view on the sprites. I can't say I really like the style, but you used it well enough. However hero speed is 10 and so I could not play this game more than I had to.
2 - Ties of Chaos - This is starting out okay, even though hero speed is low and your armor lowers it even more. Battles are bad but the story seems a bit interesting so far.
1 - Darkmoor Dungeon - I actually haven't finished this yet but I've played enough to know it's better than the others. It's not a favorite (yet) but it's pretty good. (NOTE: one bug is that the Ether2 item targets enemies)

I'm aware of the Ether2 bug as well as a few others. I released it on another forum where it was... shall we say, rigorously playtested. (I think most of the people who downloaded the game played through it several times.)

Okay, I think I've given everyone sufficient time to at least check these games out. Voting ends on Saturday (Jan. 21), so play them now if you haven't already. Help your fellow OHRer by playing and voting on his game. These guys chunked quite a bit of their time into making them, so help them out. It won't take long.

Okay, voting is more or less closed. I'll still give Rimudora a chance to vote if he shows up before I make the final tally with the Bonus/Penalty scores, but for everyone else...well it's obvious the passion for playing other people's contest games and voting on them has worn out after the 2001 48 Hour contest, so I won't hold my breath.

Anyway, here is the current total so far:

Mynorety Whispers: Ties of Chaos by RedMaverickZero
+10, +9, +10, +9, +10, +8
(Subtotal = 56)

Mynorety Whispers: The Mysterious Rogue by LeroyLeo
+7, +7, +8, +8, +8, +8
(Subtotal = 46)

Mynorety Whispers: Mynorety Report by Rimudora
+9, +8, +9, +7, +7, +7
(Subtotal = 47)

Mynorety Whispers: Not in the Face also by Rimudora
+6, +6, +6, +6, +6, +6
(Subtotal = 36)

Mynorety Whispers: Spies of the Cradle by Retrogamer
+5, +5, +5, +5, +5, +5
(Subtotal = 30)

And
Darkmoor Dungeon by Moogle1
+8, +7, +9, +10, +9, +6
(Subtotal = 49)

Please note that this is the voter total and does not include the Bonus/Penalty scores. As it stands, RedMaverickZero is in the lead, but popularity is only half the game. I will post the bonus/penalties once I finish playing through the games.

Also note that Spies of the Cradle ate all the base scores, since it still has yet to be released, so all the released games got a freebie point for each vote.

Just for the record, if anyone wants to help me find the bonuses and stuff, please feel free. I don't know that I'll catch everything, so if anyone wants to PM the facts about his game, don't hesitate. If anything, it'll speed up the tallying process.

EDIT:

Just had a reminder that Mission Objective #8 involves receiving ten points for the most favorite original character of the series. So, place your votes for your favorites sometime between now and when I post the final scores.

And try not to be over-enthusiastic about it.

I am satisfied. Maybe I can work on the last dungeon, just to test some script things. Thanks for voting. Now, just maybe, no one has to die... Big grin Big grin Big grin
