Problem the first:

When exiting a game using VDMS, the song that is currently playing always seems to get caught in a weird loop and plays just a small part of the song over and over while the title screen in on. Has anyone else encountered this?

Problem the second:

The MP~ stat seems to be broken. I have a character whose MP~ stat is a solid 75, and yet all of her magic spells cost 0 MP. When the stat is at 50 and 25, it works fine. If it helps at all, she is hero number 4.

how much do the spells cost? I haven't used MP% that much, but maybe if we know that we can figure it out.

Bear in mind that the stat refers to how much is taken OFF the cost, so if you have it set off in reverse that might be your problem

It could be (read: likely is) a rounding error:

2MP * .25 = .5 = INT(.5) = 0

In fact, with an MP~ of 75, any amount of MP up to... let's see *uses calculator*... up to about 4 MP will be rounded to 0.

As for the VDMS problem, no, I haven't noticed that.

I seem to remember previous complaints about MP~. Please do elaborate.

Well, we have a hero with spells that cost over 10 MP, but MP~ at 75 still sends these to costing zero. Again, I don't know if it matters, but this comes about from two different pieces fo equipment, one increasing MP~ by 50 and the other by 25. When equipped separately they seem to work fine, but when both equipped all this hero's spells cost zero. Very odd.

I'm also very curious about the music on exiting games. How is it that no one else would have noticed this? Perhaps it only does it to song zero (I'll have to check that on mine)...

are you running windows XP?

I've never had VDMS end with looping music like that unless I close with CTRL-ALT-DEL.

Try this for MP~:

(you can stop when a step works)

~ Make one item that sets it to 75
~ Make the two items equal to 70
~ Make one item that sets it to 70
~ Make the two items equal to 65
~ Make the two items equal to 65
... and so forth down to 50

Let us know when it starts to work properly, when it starts costing 1 MP, etc.

Never had that problem when closing vdms, but when I minimize, the note that was playing as I minimizd keeps on playing, resulting in an annoying little hum.

I am one who HAS had that same problem with the music. Well, at least a similar problem. When I alt tab out of the program (Unless I'm using the Windows version, which keeps playing the music) the song will continuously play the same note. That wouldn't be your "strange loop", would it? As for a solution, I may have already mentioned it. The Windows version of OHR gives me no problems regarding music. It still plays the song, even when I am in other applications, but at least it sounds normal. Heck, better than normal. I assume you are aware of this update. Just be careful using the Alt + Tab to switch programs using WINOHR, as the buttons are still active in the game and alt seems to work like the Esc key.

The reason a note gets stuck like that in VDMS is simple

VDMS is still active when it's out of focus, even if the program is paused. So, the program says "turn on X note", and VDMS does it. Then, you switch before it can say "turn off X note". Thus, it plays until the program resumes, and tells it to turn off, none the wiser to what really happened.

Okay, a bit more:

First of all, the music thing I'm referring to has nothing to do with switching out of, or closing the VDMS window (sorry about my earlier wording). The song is stuck in a loop on the title screen of the game (perhaps no one else has seen this because everyone else has title screen music set to start playing after a game is quit?)

The MP~ stat seems to be getting stranger. It seems that

MP~ >= 67 means all magic costs zero

50 <= MP~ < 67 means all magic costs half, rounded up

I only tried this so far with two test spells costing 5 and 10 MP. It didn't matter whether I had this stat raised by one or two pieces of equipment. I was using hero number zero now (in fact, I used the sample game tutorial Happyface). I should try more, but my little brother is bothering me to beat him at a game of Risk right now.

Any ideas?

Problem solved. Thanks for your help!

It's that nasty integer math. You see, the equation used is:

Code:
focuscost = cost - (cost \ (100 / focus))

when focus > 66, 100/focus < 1.5, and arguments to integer division rounded down to an integer, in this case 1. QB is such a pain.

Thank you guys for looking into this. Can we expect MP~ to be fixed for the next OHR update?

And I am still interested in the music problem. To add, I tried quitting the game when a song that was not song number zero was on, and it still found ways to loop around in weird places in the song (not one simple, fixed loop, strangely enough).

Ok, now that MP~ is 100% fixed, the music thing.

~ Does your title screen have music set? If not, the song should still play. However it's good practice to always set title music anyway.
