Faster than the eye could see, they were surrounded. On all sides, fighting took place. Friends were fighting friends, brothers against brothers. Bodies were covered in blood. She drew her sword and looked at him one last time. They shared a moment, one without words. They knew that no matter what happened, they would still love each other. That is when they charged.
She jumped into the air, bringing her sword down upon her lover. He raised his sword and deflected the blow. He charged up to the dark tower that stood before them. The sounds of battle were everywhere. She tried to chase after him, but one of his allies stopped her. A few slashes here and there, and he was dead. Nobody could match her blade skills.
He had some clearance, all he had to do was get to the top of the tower. It was up to him. The battle in the palace was just as strong as the one at the gates outside. The ancient halls have not been open for centuries, and the moment the tall doors at the entrance were, blood entered the sacred palace. He had to get to the roof. By now, the fighting was throughout most of the palace. He ordered some of his comrades to watch his back and look for her. By now, the one who went to protect him outside was dead.
All she knew was anger. The fury of battle unleashed a monster. She ran past friend and foe, with her mind set on one thing: the top of the tower. She ran into the gates, focused on getting to the top of her Everest. She was fast, her speed was her strength. She darted down the halls, jumping and slicing the throats of her enemies. She was almost upon her prey.
He ran into a fork. Which way? He only knew to go up, he didn’t know anything else. He decided to take the right and hoped for the best. He couldn’t stop, he couldn’t think about anything other than the top. He was the hunter, the prize was on the top.
She didn’t think, and ran past through the left side of the tower. Run, she thought. Her sides hurt. She was probably bleeding. She blocked out the pain. She had to beat him to the top of the tower. Faster she kept silently screamed to her self. I have to beat him, there is no other way. If I fail, then we all fail. She wasn’t thinking and saw someone ahead of her. She reached to her belt and threw the dagger in it at the figure ahead of her. She smiled.. whoever was up there was out of the way. She jumped over the body, looking down to see that it wasn’t an enemy, but a friend who fought for her cause. She would have felt guilt if not for the urgency of her mission.
He knew he was almost there. Only six stair cases total. Ahead of him was the last door. He ran through the doorway and was on the roof, on the right side of the tower. The prize was in the center, facing the setting sun.
She saw him on the other side. It was a tie. She smiled, he was never as fast as her, it must have been a shorter route. She saw her prize standing in the center of the tower. She ran towards him, watching her lover at the same time.
The figure turned was standing on the edge of the tower. He looked at the setting sun, and below at the battle going on because of him. He smiled and turned around, walking away from the edge and towards the two others running towards him. He was the cause of all of this, and he loved it. The two finally met him, he looked at both of them and said... “Hello mother.. father.â€
He stood there for a bit. Time stood still. He looked at his lover, she looked at him. They turned their heads towards their son. For what seemed like an eternity, the trio looked at each other as if it were the first time. Then, the two lovers jumped to strike down their child, but he was quick, and drew the two curved swords on each side of his waist. Their child deflected the blows, with some effort, and flipped backwards.
She charged her lover, tears flowing down her face. She saw that her lover too had a wound on his side where she had her’s, Good, she though.. a weakness. She was relentless.
Strike from above, to the right, to the left, jump, to the right, repeat. Her pattern was the same. It usually worked, but by the end of her attack, her opponent was dead. He knew it. He could easily dispatch her once she jumped, but he didn’t count on his son. As she jumped, his son came from behind. He rolled away, and instead, mother and son met. He took it as a moment to rest as the two tried to put an end to each other.
Her adrenaline was rushing. She had never met someone like her son. He was fast like his mother, but had the power of his father. It also didn’t help that she was wounded. She backed away, and her child charged at her. She kneeled down and pulled a dagger from her boot. He jumped up to strike her, and she threw the dagger at his left hand. Although his left hand wasn’t his primary weapon hand, it left him with pain and one less blade.. plus enough strength to still kill his father.
With a shout, he ran towards his lover and also his son. He jumped, as his son did. She threw a dagger that went through his child's left hand. The child screamed in agony. Then he jumped up, brought his sword down upon his son, and killed him with one swipe. His child was decapitated.
Once again time stood in place. The body of her child was before her, and her lover was breathing heavily. They started at each other, both had a smile on their face. They had failed. Their whole mission was to get to the top of the tower, face their son, and save the day. The both failed. The armies battling at the base of the castle had no idea that they had lost. The two then walked to each other, and held each other one last time. The sun had set, they ran out of time. Their son completed the ritual. The ground split apart, and from it.. came Hell.
The Fallen Angels came from the ground, flying in the air for the first time, the chains of Hell gone forever. They drew their swords and destroyed all. It was a perfect Hell on Earth. The lovers stared at each other, looking both in the eye.
“Which one of us is it?â€
“The one that won.†He looked away from her.
“Maybe the prophecy was wrong?†She knew that the prophecy was right. The oracle was never wrong. So far.. everything else has come true.
“Our cults are bowing down to the fallen host... but the host doesn’t know which one to slay.â€
“Maybe if we both do it, then we can prevent the whole thing.â€
He hated how she always had to say things that wasn’t going to fix anything. “We can’t prevent it! We already tried!â€
“Let’s both do it.. come on.†She looked to where the sun was setting and nodded at him.
“Fine.†He took her hand, and they ran. They ran off the roof, and the ground below was getting closer and closer. He closed his eyes.
She has always been faster than him. She wished she remembered this. She realized she was going to hit the ground first. She did, and she felt, for a split second, the pain.
He opened his eyes and saw her hit the ground. He landed on his feet. The cults around him cheered, and the fallen angels mutilated the ones that made the wrong choice and followed her. He looked at the body of his lover and laughed.
The prophecy has been fulfilled. |
