Ok, it's time to nail down the boss designs for MGS so here's the plan: I'll update this thread with portraits and costume designs over the next few days. Comments and crits are gladly accepted. First, the baddie brothers, Respite & Nepenthe. I'm particularly curious if anyone "gets" Respite's hairstyle (he's on the left).

Coming soon:
Balm Gilead
Censer Seraphim
Lore Pallas (I'm not crazy about this name. It might change)
and
Machine Golem
EDIT:
UPDATE!!!
Here's the sniper, Censer Seraphim

Baddies are cool although I'd like to see more - portraits are not that informative at the moment. I am liking the noose necklace (nooslace?). His hair I do not get. Sniper looks overweight but that's just his camo methinks. _________________ UP DOWN UP DOWN LEFT LEFT RIGHT RIGHT A B START |

Preliminary costume for Balm Gilead.
Wow, I haven't drawn figures in forever and this was really rushed. As you can see, this costume needs a lot of work. I'll keep tinkering. Suggestions welcome. Also, I'm toying with the idea of making Balm a chick (and making the wetsuit open in the front). Thoughts?
EDIT:
Female Balm

I can't help but notice that male Balm is SO much more battle-ready than his female counterpart -- assuming he can swim in all that armor. Also, what's with the religious references? Is this MGS meets Xenogears? _________________

Women have titanium skin. That's why they never wear substantial clothing to fights. _________________ "Everyone has 200,000 bad drawings in them, the sooner you get them out the better."

More like MGS meets Poe. I'm still working on a helmet/mask for female Balm. _________________ My art (and random photos)! |

The lack of armour seems immaterial as you would have to be rediculously skilled to hit a target that skinny. |

Honestly even with the armor the male target isn't much less skinny, but rather an illusion is made in his stance. Of course, I don't think good aim is a necessity with such technologies as nets, carnivorous fish (always craving human meat in literature), mines, and anything with a seeking device. _________________ "Everyone has 200,000 bad drawings in them, the sooner you get them out the better."

Respite costume design:
As you can see, Respite wears pants... when he's having a good day. _________________ My art (and random photos)! |

Don't usually post on the art forum, since I don't know squat about art, but I just want to say that it's hugely refreshing to see some non-anime stuff. |

Thanks, Cam.
Sorry there's no update. Today was spent relearning plotsctipting and working on the tech demo.
EDIT:
Ok, here's Fem Balm, take two. I went for a boring fishbowlesque helmet. Note the seastar and barnacle armor.

Okay, I like Balm-F's new armor. Lore is pretty androgynous, leaning female. I think her helmet is what throws me off because otherwise she looks like an older woman. _________________

Thanks, Moog. Lore is meant to be female, yes. But I have recieved some criticism about making an elderly woman into a boss. Thoughts?
And now for your viewing enjoyment: Jack vs. Nepenthe!
The hero sprites are pretty much final, but I'm not happy with the backdrop or with Nep's sprite yet. Any crits or comments would be greatly appreciated. (Oh, and in the final version, Respite & Nepenthe will fight together as one boss fight. I just haven't done a Respite sprite.) _________________ My art (and random photos)! |

Wow, that perspective pretty much rocks. Also, I firmly believe the entertainment industry needs more old women (and not just 40-somethings that look like 20-somethings). If they happen to be evil, so be it.
I hate the white outline on the text, though. I think someone else mentioned that in another thread. Seriously, it makes everything painful to read. _________________
