I am barely into Halloween Quest 3, and I want this game to top both HQ1 and 2, so to make it a great game, I would appreciate all the ideas you have. So, in this topic, post everything you liked and disliked about either one of the sequels. This is a brand new game with brand new characters, world, story, and everything else, and I want to make it a traditional Halloween Quest game, but at the same time bring a lot of new things to the table this go around. Any/Everyone that helps out will get mad props in the game credits. Thanks.

Not make it a sequel to two mediocre games?

It has absolutely nothing to do with the first two. Brand new story, brand new plot, brand new characters. I did a lot of changes to the set up of the battles and everything.

But it's still "Halloween Quest 3". Why are you so stuck on calling it this? If you want to go in a different direction, go in a different direction.

What I liked most about the first one was just the fun of going around and fighting monsters on Halloween while dressed in costumes and using candy magic. The game was not perfectly executed, far from it, but the premise was fun enough to carry it for me. I think the absolute worst thing you did in HQ2 was give it a big, serious story. The game would work better with a smaller, more local conflict instead of saving the world. The premise of the game just isn't serious enough to warrant a conflict that serious, and it needs to be small enough that everything in the story can happen on Halloween night.

How about this: The pot-smoking teens beat up one of your best friends and took all of his candy. Now, you must travel through an entire city and beat the crap out of several different people responsible for your friend's attack all the while collecting candy.

That's a good point Iblis.. Didn't think of it quite that way, and I must say, it's quite too late. I only made HQ2 a long game because I enjoy longer games. HQ3 shouldn't be near as long as HQ2, but it'll still be over 5 hours long... I'll make an experimental side project for the Halloween Contest this year, and we'll see how that fairs out.

I have a large variety of healing spells made already that aren't in the copy you playtested because I didn't want the player to be able to get too many good spells at that particular point in the game. The next town is going to be stocked with most all of the candy I designed so far. The Tic-Tacs do give me a very interesting idea for something though. Ha.
