I know there a few of you here who's used pitch bends in your midi songs (there's one around the beginning of Viking's final boss theme, for example), so I'd really appreciate it if someone could explain how to use them. What sort of numbers should I type into the Control value box and what does it mean?

Sadly, my current editor doesn't support them at all... -cries-
From what I recall (but I may be confusing it with MODs seeing as how I used them a lot too), pitch bends are simply a legato from one note to the other and I *think* you need to put both notes though the second will use the code for its transition...

Heck I really don't remember Sad...
Willing to hear the answer too ...

The control value is how much you want to bend the pitch. IIRC, it goes from -127 to 127, the full value being a half step or a full step... shoot, I can't remember.

But the point is, you'll need a lot of them to make the bend sound fluid. Place them all right in a row and change the control value only slightly each time. Some MIDI sequencers will automate this for you.

Actually, what I have there is an oscillating volume change. So if you wanted to emulate that, then pitch bend isn't what you need.

No, I meant that part around 26' where the chorus aahs in the background changes pitch.

Pitch bending is more suited for detuning a note to sharpen or flatten it. Most commonly, its used in horror music with strings to create that falling-into-chaos feeling.
