That is, Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for those who don't use acronyms for everything (like myself)
good game for discussion methinks, because it had probably the best story of any LoZ, and certainly had it's odd flaws.

Now, if you don't mind, following will be some spoilers (unless you beat the game of course).

So anyhoos I figured this was a good topic, since there were so many locations, characters, subcharacters and ambiguities, and it wasn't wrapped up so well in the end. Also, they made the horrible mistake of permanently removing Midna from the series, despite being the coolest character in the entire series. A few specific parts, the sages were not mentioned, the baby just kinda came with no metaphor or anything behind it, and the nice fishing girl Hena, who was probably the most realistic character, wasn't mentioned either at all (maybe this is different if you really finish the entire fishing campaign or something?).

So I don't know exactly where to go from here. Let's just leave this open as a topic for discussing bad endings and how they could be improved, particularly for games with huge worlds.

The Twilight Realm doesn't exist in any "sequels" such as A Link to the Past (the Dark World is Ganon's tainting of the Sacred Realm), so it was necessary to remove it before any more plot inconsistencies happen.

Twilight Princess had huge delays, yet it was still a rushed game. I wonder how Nintendo managed to pull that one off.

I don't feel it was rushed.

The reason Midna was "removed" was that TP's story is completely self-contained: the reason you never saw the Twili before is because they existed in a completely different dimension. The reason you never see them again is because they exist in completely differetn dimension.

However, if Nintendo really really really wanted to bring Midna back, they'd find a way for it to make sense. They did make it out the dimension before without the mirror, they can do it again. Remember, her power is so great that she turned the mirror to dust; Zant could only shatter it.

...And only the triforce itself could restore it.

But anyhows, I meant games in general with huge worlds, and how they manage to nicely wrap it all up. When playing these huge games, you might tend to develop some sentimentality for an unimportant character, like in my case Hena, and not really care about the children going home to visit their new baby brother (which was over-dramatized imo). Get what I'm saying? now shaddab about the twilight realm >>

I REALLY wanna see Midna again. That game was and IS mt fav game. And dammit NPZelda games are very very rarely linked. Thats like saying all Sonic games are linked just because Sonic is in them.

Nintendo has been making Sequels to Zelda games these days.

Majora's mask was a loosley based sequel

The phantom hourglass is a sequel to Windwaker

Some of the hanheld games (the 4 swords) are loose sequels or in 4 swords, a trilogy.

But intil then, it's time to console End-Of-Game depression with fanfiction.

As a side note, TP should be of all the games, worthy of a sequel, ecause its an instant classic. Nintendos launch was a bit weak. And from what I understand 95% of people who bouht Wii (many many people) also got TP. Even if only a small percentage of buyers became fans Zelda just got alot bigger.

Did anyone notice Link was riding OUT of town at the end?

Actually, BB, most if not all the Zelda games are linked. Hyrule has a definite timeline, you just have to keep in mind that in most of the games, you are controlling a different Link saving a different Zelda than the other games.
And the proper sequels aren't anything new, either. In fact, almost every major Zelda release has had a sequel, TP pending.

~ The Adventures of Link being a sequel to Legend of Zelda.
~ Link's Awakening being a sequel to A Link To The Past.
~ Majora's Mask, and the two Oracles games, being sequels to Ocarina of Time.
~ Phantom Hourglass being a sequel to Wind Waker.

I agree Uncy

I just think that each of those Sequel bunches have thier own continuity.

Example: I think Ocarina and all its sequles AND Windwaker and its sequels are in a continuity because they involve the same hyrule, with the deku tree and same Gannon.

I don't think the TP world turns into the waterworld of windwaker. TP had some allusions of previous heroes (but so do 90% of all zeldas) but didn't have the Deku tree or Kokiri's (had Zoras though). TP, if you forced association, could fit after OoT...but would branch off as its own continuity.

Maybe the games to have timelines, maybe its more of a tree timeline than a uh....line.

Like comic book retcons to explain inconsistancy in plot...

ANYWHOO. To be completly freakin honest, I died at the end *spoiler* when she broke the mirror. The whole deal a that point became depressing. But at the end when instead of returning to the whole farmboy, village leader, everyone back to their old sad little lives gig, Link is seen riding OUT of his hometown, that gives me hope for tommorow (or at least a good opening for a fanfic)

I dunno. The story is complete enough to be self contained and still be beautiful. Yet it leaves enough open to make a good 2nd game....I hate the way nintendo crafts damn amazing storys then leaves you like a hot cheerleader...

I disagree, I don't believe there is a definite timeline, and if for no other reason because each game has a different writer and designer and team hardly thinking about each other's broad epic ideas if there even is one at all, which I quite doubt. Some links are made, but it's a little silly to argue continuity. I also disagree about Nintendo crafting awesome stories, cause I just don't think they do.

But anyways, another character, almost as dear to me as Midna is (brace yourselves) the Wind Fish. The Wind Fish and the entire population of Koholint island, all illusions and never to be seen again in a Zelda game. I don't really like that crap, with all these sequals to OoT at least one game needs to follow the origin or becomings of the Wind Fish, especially with the Twilight Realm offering potential explanations for the Nightmares.
I can't complain about LA's ending though. It wrapped everything up, Link came through, the Wind Fish was free and the credits just rolled, without any bull trying to show that everyone's happy. More importantly, it had the best damn music of the entire series. Makes me cry to this day.
