...Except this time they're MUCH FREAKING BETTER!

Now, I didn't draw these (I can only wish I had the talent). I recently purchased RPG Maker XP and got a hold of a freeware Face Generator. With this program, I can combine presets of facial features then customize the coloring to create professional anime avatars. I used this to create avatars of the Hoshima characters (which I'm not done with yet; I just have five of them right now).

Dr. Hayama Ryu

Hoshima

Saki

Kounnosuke

Tim

These are pretty cool. Except you could add more expression to Tim. The eyes stay constant, and only his mouth changes expressions, that is something that looks weird.

On the other note, whats the name of the face generator, I wanna play with it too.

Really, the eyes stay the same in most of 'em, it's just more obvious in Tim's because they never ever change at all!

The Link to the English version is here:

It's a wonderful program, but the damn thing likes to close itself out periodically (then again, I started with the Japanese version. I don't know if the english version is cleaned up at all).

I'm not sure what it is with those avatars of teeth-biting...But they look a lot more like annoyance than fury.

This avatar making could be a contest in itself...

I actually went to look for your first set of Hoshima avatars just for comparison. They weren't technically excellent, but at least they were uniquely yours.

This Anime Mii-Maker thing you're using is making everyone look the same aside from hair and those blue stripes on the cheeks. There's not even a way to distinguish the gender of characters, REALLY, because they all have the same head shape and eyes. There's barely any variation in expression because the eyebrows almost never change and the expressions aren't exaggerated, something EVERY ARTIST DOES TO CONVEY EMOTION.

If you don't think you have the chops to draw, find someone else to do it for you. This is a game design community, people are generally willing to help one another. I don't think the generic-anime-o-matic is the way to go.

Some of the more recent Fire Emblem games suffer from the same symptom the anime-face creator has, where only the facial features change when showing anger, etc, although there have been a few exceptions (such as a main character dipping his head to show shame/saddness, while the upper torso the head is drawn on stays the same, heh).

I exclude the Super Famicom/Famicom FE games from this symptom, since they don't have much facial animation other than talking anyway (though Marth actually has two different portraits, one is "normal" and one is "I'm going to do something about this!", heh.)

Yeah, I don't want to talk about Fire Emblem too much, but it always seems valid to discuss. *thinks about plugging FE3 into his Super NES again*

Yeah, but there are more differences between say, Hector, Eliwood, and Lyndis than just hair style and eye color.

they all look like women. the only thing actually dividing the men and women, is the fact the girl has barely noticeable eyelashes.

Hahaha! I remember when I used to draw like that.
And actually, I was just thinking about how masculinely structured Saki's face is.

You know... I completely forgot about the "completely the same" argument.

And to be honest, I actually like the females better than the men. They would make good 19 year olds. The males would be the ones that are feminine. >_<

Hell, I still draw like that. I think I've only drawn 1 or 2 decent looking women in my life. Then again, I never practice, nor actually draw women that much.

How many animes/games have you seen where the male characters look feminine? I mean, take a look at Tetsuya Normura's character designs.

Besides, A) I can't draw well, and not well enough to want to use in a game, B) I hate asking for help from other people, and C) As long as these avatars beat my originals, I'm satisfied with using them.

I bet you 20 bucks that most people prefer Amano here, excluding J.A.R.S, because he would prefer Akira Toriyama's Chrono Trigger characters obviously.

Yes, most main characters have gotten girly lately (especially Link, hint hint), but it's possible not to make them so feminine even when drawing anime. Just don't think about making the character appealing to girls and you'll do fine.

Then again, you're using the same anime face maker that Gundam SEED used, so that's kind of impossible.
