|
|
This is kind of like advertising, but here is some before and afters of cutscenes I'm doing for my game. PHC's comments as well as mamoru's made me consider that the animeish style that is used for the cutscenes in my game is not best for a horror survival. So I'm in the process of slowly updating most of the cutscenes to be more fitting. All critique that are not one liners are welcome.
The left is before, the right side is after.

Improvement! It'll be a lot easier to take your cutscenes more seriously now since you switched to a less-anime like style. |

These look amazing. They have a fantastic and unique style, though there's something about the second one that doesn't feel sincere. I have no idea what it is about it, because everything I can think of to fix it other than total facial exaggeration looks like it's already in the picture, but it's like there's a line between slight panic and horrified horrification that the old version's crossing but the new version's merely toeing.
The new version of the corpse, however, is infinitely more horrifying and a lot less grainy! |

Very nice duke. But I see you still have a problem with shoulders, they aren't defined. You could imagine your character turning to face the side, and that's about the approximate location where the shoulder should begin.
Also, the second image in the second set, his mouth should be opened, as if he was screaming. That would make the scene more intense. |

Thanks guys. I do notice there being an issue with the second one. It's a she by the way Longebane, but both you and Uncommon are right... she seems like she's freaked out, but not intensely fearful. I guess it's the eyes and mouth, I will work on that. Maybe if I make her nostrils more dialated, it'd add a sense of fearfulness? _________________ http://www.castleparadox.com/gamelist-display.php?game=750 Bloodlust Demo 1.00

The nostrils are fine. It's just her facial expression in general. Needs more jaw dropping, head tilted to her left a bit... Basically, the same as the old picture, but better looking, heh. |

Don't forget eyelashes! A few pixels will change your boy into a girl. As far as I can tell, you de-womanized your character. And I don't find her "cute" either. (She kind of looks like....you!) |

If your idea of feminizing a character is adding eyelashes, Longebane, you have a lot to learn. For what it's worth, I was pretty sure it was a chick, just not an overly feminine one. There's no reason you have to fit her into some box of what some people believe a female image should be. |

I thought the main character was a 12 year old boy, because that's what his sprite came off as.
Heck. I didn't even know the main character was even a teenager until I saw the cutscenes that involved other characters.
EDIT: My silly mistakes in determining gender aside, I agree with Uncommon. _________________

Uncommon is very right. She wasn't supposed to be overly feminine, so I'm glad he got the image I was going for.
I don't think the characters look THAT young Newbie Power, but since I'm redoing cutscene graphics anyway, I could probably afford to make them all look a little older. _________________ http://www.castleparadox.com/gamelist-display.php?game=750 Bloodlust Demo 1.00

It was your walkabout sprite that threw me off in the beginning of the game. The cut scenes made me realize, "I was playing as a teen the whole time?" _________________
