|
|
The curtain has dropped and it is now time to decide who will win this year's Terrible Games Contest. You have until the 14th of May to decide who will win, and who will lose. The entrants are:
Onlyoneinall Eyes (TGC 2007 Version) http://www.castleparadox.com/gamelist-display.php?game=819
Ysoft_Entertainment Super Trivia http://www.castleparadox.com/gamelist-display.php?game=823
TwinHamster Dance Dance Armageddon http://www.castleparadox.com/gamelist-display.php?game=824
no_shot Striptease Typing Tutor http://www.castleparadox.com/gamelist-display.php?game=825
JSH357 Interpreting Frost: Mending Wall http://www.stellarx.org/sdhawk/porn/mendingwall.zip
Uncommon Mazes of Persistance http://www.castleparadox.com/gamelist-display.php?game=826
Lassie-Lunaris OHR SACHEN MULTIPACK http://www.castleparadox.com/gamelist-display.php?game=827
Moogle1 SCHBW http://castleparadox.com/gamelist-display.php?game=828
Anyone may vote on the games, and may rate each one on a scale of 1 (awful) to 5 (best). What constitutes a bad or good "terrible" game is your decision, as is the nature of the contest. Your score sheet should look something like this:
Code: |
Put on socks - 2
Put on pants - 3
Put on hat - 2
Cross the street - 5
Barely Legal Seals - 1
|
If you fail to vote on any one game, I will assume you DID NOT play it, and accordingly give it an automatic score of 3. If enough people fail to play one particular game, it may quickly rise to the top of the voting and be a declared the winner. Consequently, it is in your own interests to play each game, even if only for a little bit, so you can judge it yourself.
You may only vote ONCE, and I will not be accepting PMs or Emails about your votes. Yes, you can vote for your own game. Voting shall begin May 1st and will end on the 14th, to allow people enough time to play the games and vote on them.
After the votes have been tallied and the points added up, any deductions incurred on your behalf will be subtracted from your score. At this point, a maximum number of deducted points can be 10, so if you feel you can beat out your competition by a wide enough margin then more power to you. The game with the MOST points on the 14th of May wins, and its creator gets a -PRIZE-!!
The 1st Place Winner will recieve $50 USD (by check) sent by mail to your home adress. I will be coordinating with you personally regarding this. I will be entering too, so if I win, then I keep the prize money. If you wish for some other prize instead, I will coordinate with you to get you that prize - be it artwork, or whatever. Consider it a reward for hard work.
---And now for my random thoughts----
I had anticipated a somewhat larger turnout this year, but it's unsurprisingly half what it was last year. $50 not good enough for you? I will expect a larger turnout for 2008.
Nonetheless, my secret goal of providing numerous test cases for the OHR developers to nail down bugs in the most recent nightlies has succeeded. That's right, this was all an elaborate scheme to help improve the OHRRPGCE is some way. The real question to ask is whether they'll learn anything from these examples - the true edutainment test.
The following users win the Darwin Award, for they were not fit to survive until the contest ended, and gave no indication of defeat.

That's too bad. I expected some pretty terrible games out of those three.
Haven't played Eyes yet, will play and vote soon. _________________

It looks like I'm the only one who DIDN'T use the nightly build - thus, I failed to conform to your secret agenda. Does this mean I'm disqualified? _________________ Play Horrible Fantasy NOW! |

I guess I'm not on the list because I gave indication of defeat, heh.

I think I missed the point of the TGC contest pretty bad... so my game is pretty terrible in the aspect that it isn't terrible enough, although it has found some bugs it seems (like the passability walls mysteriously becoming... passable in certain areas?) _________________ http://www.castleparadox.com/gamelist-display.php?game=750 Bloodlust Demo 1.00

what about my game? You didn't even give it a score. I am sure I didn't do that bad of a job. Oh well, if didn't give me any points, I guess I automatically get 3, right Fen? _________________ Try my OHR exporter/importer.

I'd like to point out that the euphoric smile on my stripper's face is implicative of drug-use, so keep that in mind when adding up my bonus points. _________________ Play Horrible Fantasy NOW! |

Eyes - 1. DLL error.
Super Trivia - 1. Pretty terrible but not in any good ways.
Dance Dance Armageddon - 2. Looks neat but there's almost no gameplay. Plus a camera error kept me from progressing past the ruby sword guy.
Striptease Typing Tutor - 2. Makes sense for the contest. Not that well implemented though.
Interpreting Frost: Mending Wall - 1. Didn't interest me.
Mazes of Persistance - 4. A good terrible game.
OHR SACHEN MULTIPACK - 1. Not really anything there.
SCHBW - 5. Interesting use of the battle engine. Not as fun as SCHMP though. _________________ Locked

Votes!
Eyes - 1. Where's the terrible?
Super Trivia - 1. This isn't a terrible game. It's just a pretty standard hentai trivia game, and not even interesting trivia.
Dance Dance Armageddon - how'd I miss this one? TODO: fill in later
Striptease Typing Tutor - 3. This is altogether a pretty impressive package: the player is forced to type self-deprecating phrases and is "rewarded" with a crudely drawn nude woman. Failure is not an option, as I discovered after trying very hard to lose.
Interpreting Frost: Mending Wall - 2. The screenshots were offensive, but there was no interactivity beyond being able to skip pass the worse ones with judicious use of the use key.
Mazes of Persistence - 4. I figured out that if you hold down the use key (I use Ctrl), you automatically advance text boxes. Stopping every few turns is still annoying. I think the real draw here is that despite that the game is so irritating, the theme of the game keeps you from wanting to quit. Persistence!
OHR SACHEN MULTIPACK - 1. I wish this were finished. (From what I can tell, a lot of people only tried it once and didn't realize there were two modes.)
SCHBW - 5. People have said it's more fun than SCHMP, people have said it's less fun. Regardless, they were both a blast to make and each offers a different terrible experience. This one in particular actually screwed up my color vision for a few seconds after playing. Whee! (Side note: If I have to hear that song one more time, I'm liable to strangle a muppet.) _________________

Success! Even with that little exploit!

Four, technically.
EDIT: votes
Eyes ~ 1 - Got a .dll error trying the game.exe it came with, and it crashed in the middle of the intro both times I tried it in the game.exe I already have. But from what I did see I'd have to go with the consesus that this would've fit better in a Halloween contest.
Super Trivia ~ 1 - What the hell dude. This is a huge step down from Get In The Hole. Not only is the trivia all boring, but the Sailor Jupiter-esque girl at the end talks basically like an idiot.
Dance Dance Armageddon ~ 1 - It could be half interesting if there was any interactivity and you could actually do anything after the first fight.
Interpreting Frost: Mending Wall ~ 2 - It takes obscenity a little further than all your other visual essays, but the only things this has going for it is just how surreal the narration makes it.
OHR SACHEN MULTIPACK ~ 2 - I was really expecting a lot more out of it. I'd say something about how the battles in Sheep Rancher mode work well for a terrible game, except that you balance all your games that way. :( Even so, I like the idea of randomly generating what game is being played, but considering that most of the games just aren't much more than walkarounds (though that could work for the racing game if the name is any hint) doesn't do much for the entertainment end.
Striptease Typing Tutor ~ 3 - I will give this one props for at least being playable and fitting the contest pretty well.
Mazes of Persistence ~ 5 - This is everything I wanted it to be.
SCHBW ~ 5 - seriously if anyone that isn't me should win it's you
I love how the best entries basically ignored the edutainment theme. I definitely enjoy this one over SCHMP, if only for the puzzle aspect. A very suitable way to take the concept one step further Great game. |

Well, thats the last time I am doing trivia based games. And yes, my game did fail to be terrible, I admit to that. I will try better next time. _________________ Try my OHR exporter/importer.
