Is anyone interested in the Halloween Contest this year? In case you're new or don't remember, here's how it works.
Starting on October 1st, and ending November 1st, at 11:59 PM your time (Or my time, I'm not picky) anyone interested tries to make a horrifying game. Then, the games are judged by the community on three merits:
1. How fun the game was to play
2. Whether or not the game managed to be frightening
3. How original the concepts involved were
All 3 scores are on a scale of 0-10, and I forget if we used fractions or not. There are separate honors for the game with the highest average score in each category, and overall.
I know there's a couple of contests going on right now, so I thought I'd ask before adding another one to distract everyone. Also, I think I gave RedMaverickZero control of the contest as the prize for winning last year, so if he wants to take over and do it that's cool with me, but I also know he's pretty busy, and I'd be glad to cover for him.
Even if there's not enough interest to have a proper contest, I'd be glad to review any game released within the traditional contest timeline that tries to be scary, just send me a link in PM. |

I'd be willing to hold the contest again, if there is enough entrants. I mean, offering a prize to 3 people just doesn't seem right to the host. But if enough people say they'll do it, and actually follow through, then I will offer a prize. Not sure what I gave last year, I think Surlaw won artwork and money. _________________ ---------------Projects----

Heck, we've never needed prizes before. This could be our finest year yet. Look at all the improvements in the engine. We've got a new palette, we've got layers, and most, most importantly: Sound effects. All the pieces are in place, just waiting for someone to use it.
I'm gonna try to enter something, but I'm still having a kind of "Gamer's Block". Still willing to review any and all entrants. |

I offered a prize last year to motivate people. I think a little cash reward inspires people to work that much harder. I don't think it was more than 20 bucks or something though. _________________ ---------------Projects----

Money only lasts for so long.
But Glory lasts forever.
Get some special titles tossed into the deal.
Do it. Do it. |

I am interested in playing the games. As for making one myself, I can't do that yet. Maybe next year! _________________ Still around. |

So, is this actually happening? I'd be interested in entering a certain sidescroller. _________________

Yeah, I'd say it's happening, prizes or not. IF there's not enough interest for Red to fork over his cash monies, I'll work out something goofy with IM like two years ago.
Edit: I just looked it up, and apparently I gave the naming rights to 2007 to the winner of the 2006 contest, not the contest itself. I'm going to get the ball rolling here, but I have no beef with Red whatsoever if he wants to run his own contest, with his own rules and prizes, Halloween's a cool enough time to merit two competitions. |
