|
|
I am considering scraping my entire arsenal of sound effects to fall back on some of these 8-bit sounds included with the engine. I'm just wondering what other people think about this. Strictly for OHR game purposes, would you prefer an 8-bit slash-like sound or the sound of a real sword schwinging?
I am having a hard time deciding whether realism is better or not with the graphics of the OHR. Just looking for a second opinion really, but this probably makes no sense whatsoever. _________________ MOCBJ Software - My Games

Who got these sounds anyway? I recognize about half of them from the Adventures of Lolo (meaning: not public domain).
I would just make sounds myself. I honestly don't enjoy listening to sounds in games that are taken from websites because they don't have the 'instant-ness' needed to properly convey good game sounds. _________________

8-bit, IMO. Realistic sound effects generally don't gel so well with 2D games. |

Yeah. If you're not going to make new sounds, just go 8-bit. _________________

This kinda what I was leaning towards.
I'd love to make new 8 bit sounds, but it seems much more difficult to me than composing midis. I will give it a shot though. _________________ MOCBJ Software - My Games

Kizul Emraldfire made most of them. To the best of my knowledge, none of them have been ripped from any other source.
because of the simple waveforms (square wave and triangle wave) prevalent in 8-bit style sound effects, it is not at all unusual for more than one different person to independently create sound effects that sound the same.
If anybody makes more good sound effects that would be of general use to other OHRers, you can upload them to the wiki on the 'Free Sounds' page |
