This question has been going through my mind for a while. Why do we create OHR games? I personally find parts of it enjoyable, however, many other parts are somewhat difficult and cause me to be exasperated. Smokin'

But the real reasion is; why? Do we want to show our kids (if we have any or plan on it anyway)? Do we want to impress the community? do you want to prove to yourself you can do it?

I do it because of the community, as well as proving to myself that I can do it.

The answer lies in my most recent LJ entry.

The reason I create games is because I like to do it.

I do it because whenever I'm playing a game, I undoubtedly come across parts where I think to myself "I could have made that better". Thus, here I am.

I like games. I like RPGs. It's obvious I'd like to make them >Big grin.

I like creating stuff people have never seen before. Making stories of stuff that doesn't exist. I like making things fun for people. I love fun, and games are fun. *shrug*. I'm just goin' in circles here, pretty much...

I make games because if I don't have something to stimulate my mind it will surely turn to mush, forcing me to end up as a professional skater...

I make games for the same reason I masturbate. The only person who knows exactly what I want is me.

I am creating games because I want people to feel a change within them as they play through, and beat the game. Doesn't matter if it is nothing more than a nagging question about something they've been thinking about for a while...the point is, something that I created instilled a feeling within someone.

That, and I feel that it is a medium that allows me great power of my ability to create worlds.

It takes a lot to get me to continue with OHR Battle. Normally, looking at other games helps me to improve.

I have to set aside a time for making OHR games. When I look at my computer I think "Ug. Don't want to work on it" but when I start working, I have a good time.

Hello Stacy! Now is my chance to be nice to you, and I shall take full advantage of it. Razz

The thing about me is... I HATE videogames. I feel they are a waste of time and I haven't bought a video game for SIX MONTHS, and haven't truelly played one in five. (Not counting OHR games, which is also very little.) I just like the feeling to have created a story with graphics, with the ability to play it. I know people hate my games, but that is the reason I make them. I guess its same as Jeff. I make them because it's fun. I make them because I like to make them.

One thing that helps while you're making games is listening to game music (http://www.gamingfm.com). This site has a live radio with game music, and it is appropriate for getting you in the game design mood! I switch it on, let it run in the background, and OHR. It works great.

I get inspired in the weirdest places. I was just at KFC and I got this great town theme stuck in my head. I'm now humming it and hoping that I can remember it in time to record it. I always seem to forget these tunes...
