Ok, so you get 2.5 extra hours, as I'll probably wont be home by midnight
This year's theme is...
NOTHING
That's right, make anything you feel like. I haven't done this since the second year, but i think it's long overdue.[/b] |

This is a horrible un-motivational theme. Why are you redoing an old theme anyway? |

The theme isn't "nothing," there is no theme. _________________

lol, omg, OXYMORON! Thank god you fixed it.
Else that would mean that, if the theme is "NOthing" then that would mean that there is no theme, so the theme is: There is no theme! They cancel each other out! *BOOM* Everyone out of the universe! _________________ http://www.madsoftgames.net/

The theme is EVERYTHING. The theme is ANYTHING.
You are not regulated or bound by a theme. Let your creativity run wild!
I have a great idea for this contest, but I need Minnek's cooperation, and time is running out. I guess I'll just make a demo of the idea and release it later. _________________ Planning Project Blood Summons, an MMORPG which will incinerate all of the others with it's sheer brilliance...

Well, I always have ideas for themes, and I'm always willing to use them.
But sometimes, it's nice to see what other people have in mind---nothing to hold them back.
My idea came from looking around the web. There were so many games out there to represent RPG Maker. Those games were incentives for other people to try out RM. In other words, those games were sort of a RM-defining game. I thought, why dont we have more of those for the OHR?
Don't get me wrong, there are lots of great games that would undoubtedly attract people to try the OHR (Missing and Vikings, to name a few). But I wanted to give people a chance to show everyone what their idea of a good game is, while also giving a chance to show everyone what they can do in the OHR.
I don't want people to think that I got lazy and just decided to leave an open theme. I chose this thinking that people would be excited to do something of their own styling. I wanted people to do what they do best. And, well, i guess that's this years theme.
EDIT: I just wrote this on Slime Salad
Quote: | My explanation on the theme.
First off, i didn't just get lazy and put an open theme.
The reason why I did this is because when i set out rules, or give limits to what people can or cannot make, it in turn limits people to what they can do in their full potential. I want people to go all out. I want people to make the best that they've ever made. I want people to make games that will make people outside of the OHR want to play.
Granted, we have our whole lives to make something great with the OHR. But in truth, most of us dont. The 48 hour contest pulls out some of the best games on the OHR, and it's sad to say that it's the time where usually the most games come out all year. And having a contest gives people incentive to make games. There aren't any prizes. Only the reward of knowing you've started making something.
Lastly, people who are willing to enter the 48h contest obviously have devotion to the OHR. We've obviously chose the OHR over many other RPG makers out there, so we have to show the rest of the rpg making community why we're better, and this contest is just a stepping stone for people to get started on making the best rpg for the OHR.
I guess that's my ulterior motive: to get people to make something to prove that the OHR is indeed a great tool, not just for making rpgs, but making games in general. |

Don't you know it's a bad tactic to heat up other rival teams like that? xD _________________ Snippy:

Well, didn't enter. I forgot about it (so didn't get a chance to get motivated), and found plenty of other things to do. I haven't entered previous contests because of the theme, and probably would have jumped on this, but it's just no inspiration now. _________________ "It is so great it is insanely great." |
