|

I am going to be a tad short on this, because I just finished typing a long freaking post and my connection timed out when I went to publish it.
Although I have only recently contributed, I have been a part of this community for a long time. Any one who has been around for a while knows that the OHR community growth is pretty much stagnant. As i'm sure others do, I long for the old days where places like Operation OHR and the old Zantetsuken forums were brimming with excitement and new games, both good and bad.
Although there are still many great people involved in the community, I feel that if some of them were to leave, that the community as a whole could crumble. The thought of this saddens me deeply.
How would everyone feel about a new member contest? I don't know exactly how it would work just yet, but maybe something like this:
- You invited as many members as possible to come check out the OHRRPGCE community.
- Encourage them to play games and create one.
- Once it has been confirmed that your recruit is working on a game, you get a point.
- The member with the highest points after a certain period of time wins a cash prize of up to $100 (whatever I can swing at the time)
Again, this is just the basic idea. I am not really sure exactly how it would work or be fair. All I know is that I am willing to dish out the cash if you guys are willing to plant some seeds.
Could this give birth to a lot of newbies and their craptastic games? Yes, but remember, you were once in their shoes. I feel that if we do this though, in the long run, we could promote growth of the future of the OHRRPGCE community.
Any thoughts, comments, or suggestions on this idea are welcome. _________________ MOCBJ Software - My Games

We are actually spreading news of the OHR on various indie-game developing boards and such.
However, only a few people from each board are biting.
Ideas towards reviving the community are always nice, but I'm not quite sure how anyone would be able to manage the points. |

I've been making YouTube videos of games. So far, little interest in Darkmoor Dungeon, but my Sword of Jade videos have gotten many views already (which is odd because I haven't done a very good job with the videos). _________________

SoJ is better-publicized outside of the OHR community. I'm really the only other one who talks about DD, but I do it often enough for several people. _________________

SoJ is better publicized outside of the community, but my videos weren't, so I guess the internet is just sneaky that way. _________________

Youtube videos is a great idea-- both of gameplay and game editing (perhaps with commentary) |

Youtube videos do sound like a good idea. I've actually thought about making a trailer of the intro of my new game when it is at that stage. Maybe I should think about doing some others, perhaps with The Omega?
I hope that nobody was offended by my original post. The reason why I said what I said about newbie games was because I know that there are a select few that have the elitist attitude and I figured I could go ahead and put a sock in their mouth with that comment.
Also, I know that others try and spread the word about the OHR, sometimes even on a daily basis. I wasn't putting down what you all already do, but I figured my idea might be worth mentioning anyways. _________________ MOCBJ Software - My Games

I think a new member contest would be a good idea, after all, the more members we have, the more members we will get!
Only problem is, you need a prize, otherwise, no one is going to do their absolute best. Or, at least I wont. |
