I've made a set of border sprites. Now what? I can't find an option to use them in the text editor, box appearance, etc.

Oh, and Hi. Happy I haven't been here in a long time.

The new update is amazing. I could have cried when I saw what was new.

Welcome back! Does this mean we're going to see updates to The Local Gods?

To use box borders, you'll have to attach them to a specific box style. So you will need to go to Edit Graphics -> Change User Interface Colors. At the bottom of the menu you will be able to choose which box style uses which border.

Awesome! Thanks!! Big grin

I've already started working on it! Are you kidding me? After I saw the new update all I could think was "Now I can delete about 50 background bitmaps!" I mean they work ok, but sometimes they make NPC's appear to freeze (and in the wrong place), and animated maptiles are suddenly static.

I took screenshots of certain key situations in-game, added bordered portraits to the bitmap, then imported them as backgrounds. The result is that it looked like portraits were being displayed along with the message boxes, but all animation stopped when they came on. That always kinda bugged me, and now my game's going to lose about 6 Mb in backgrounds. I'm stoked.

Oh, is there any way to import portraits? Everything I've tried has asploded.

I've also failed to import any sound effects or songs, either in WAV or MP3 format, no matter which ones I try. I was kinda sad, too. I wanted to load an old DOS version of OHR, record my original BAM files as WAV's, edit them in cooledit, and then re-import them as OGG's. Maybe it's a bitrate issue?

The music thing was probably the main reason why I haven't worked on my game in a long time, and if I can complete the exercise above, I would be so happy.

Sorry to double post.

I just got a look at my border in the game. I can't believe it. Razz Only thing though, the sides are squashed. I know why it's doing that though. I'm either going to have to live with that or ditch the greek key border idea completely. I worked for about 4 hours on that one last night. Sad... Can I resize menu boxes now?

I think the border looks great.

Yes you can! Go to the Edit Menus menu and you'll find lots of options, including resizing/repositioning, changing the menu's contents, creating extra menus (that you can chain from other menus, or from plotscripting. You can also create a menu from scratch through plotscripting if you needed to.) Justifying the text flush left, right, or center, and changing the appearance of the box.

Importing portraits should work like importing any other sprites (Hitting I or the "I" icon in the sprite editor.)

What's happening when you try to import music and sound effects?

Oh WOW. Thanks! Very cool.

It's still not perfect after editing the proportions of the menu box. It seems the ratio of height to width is a little bit off, but Meh. That's such a small thing in comparison to being able to add this to the menu box. I'm just a perfectionist, but it's still much better than it was. If I could just adjust the height only, and reduce it by 2 pixels it would be perfect.

Oh, and it says "MP3 conversion failed. Press any key..." Same with WAV files. I'm putting the files into the import folder, though I'm not even sure if that's necessary any more. Still nothing. I'll keep trying things, maybe I'll hit upon the solution, or at least the reason why it's happening.

Very nice border. It took coordination to get the tiles to fit together so flawlessly. I can't find any flaws!
I like the design. Very reminiscent of early Etruscan or Greek.
Also, welcome back!

Do you have the right files in the "support" folder?

Also, welcome back. Hope to see more of The Local Gods.

I really love the look of that game. Reminds me of all those early 90s CD-Rom games.

Well, I have madplay.exe in there, and oggenc.exe. Do I need something else? Should I be transferring the WAV files to OGG before I import them? I'll at least give that a try. I just got done recording all 7 songs from BAM to WAV, now I just have to edit them to get the loops working smoothly.

Oh and thanks to everybody. Happy I've missed working on my game, and posting here wit youz guyz. And thanks for the game support! Hopefully I'll have a new version uploaded fairly soon.

Hmm, nope. That's all you should need.

If you do convert them to OGG before you import them, then you'll have no problems.

I did, and I didn't. Razz

YES!! My original songs are now restored to their former bam-tastic glory! I totally understand why BAM format was dropped, it's just that those songs were written For BAM, and they never sounded right as MIDI files. There's a slight click when some of the loops cycle around, but I can live with that.

Now the MIDI files I had also imported aren't playing though, neither in the editor nor in the game. I may just need a restart. If nothing else, I can always record the MIDI files as WAV's, and then transfer them to OGG also.

Well I said I would be happy, and guess what. I am. Happy

Most sound cards have a separate volume mixer for midi, and most people listen to so few midis that they don't realize when their midi volume is turned all the way down.

My midi volume is up almost all the way. I tried a restart also, and the MIDI files still aren't playing. Oh well, I can always just transfer them.
