I think this is a cool idea. I would suggest linking it from Where can I find Games? and maybe from a few other places too.

As for the zip files... actually, I think the wiki allows zip file uploads.

Also, as much as I love cross-platformness, I think bundling windows installers for games can be valuable for making them accessible to new users.

If you want to do this package for non-OHR members you should include completely different games, though.

Some games I'd nominate would be:
- FUABMXv3+v4 to show good graphic potential with an individual style
- EOTE2 to show Nintendo-like RPG potential
- Wingedmene to show Sega-like RPG potential
- Bloodlust to show that actually games as good as Silent Hill are possible
- maybe Phantom Tactics but I'd wait for a later version, also maybe Darkmoor Dungeon and Vampire Curse, even though Moogle1's games are all way too hard for a normal gamer they all show individual approaches you can do game-design-wise
- Spellshard or whatever that 8bit game is called to show classic potential
- some game Royal made the (2D) graphics for
- Babel for indiviual game idea combined with individual graphic style
- Grief to show 3D rendering potential
- all the games of Orchard because they are genius masterpieces that even surpass professional games, specifically: City of Dreams, Boundless Ocean and Missing

I'm agreeing with Rya here on including Darkmoor Dungeon, it really shows off some really good boss formula, if I'd spotted that when I first started my bosses would of been 1000 times better, (disclaimer; I haven't stole any boss formula from DD, however it was very inspirational)

I wanted to suggest DON'T EAT SOAP (but not Baconcthulhu, because it is a Terrible Game), however I see that it's 5.9MB.

I suggest splitting the pack into two parts. You can put all the small games in the first part and try and keep that below e.g. 10 MB, and put the rest in part two which you aim to keep below e.g. 50 MB.

There's a lot of non-RPGs in that starting pack. I expected to see mostly RPGs. I wish I could make more suggestions, but there aren't that many OHR games which are both complete and which I've played through to completion.

Missing
City of Dreams
Boundless Ocean
Vampire's Curse - oh, dang, that's not PG-13. Anyway, prodding FL into fixing the loud rain right at the beginning and broken music tracks.
Final Fantasy H - is finished, isn't it?
Gohrillas - since it's so simple and short, would it hurt to add it?

I think Rya's suggestions are pretty good, but it's been so long snince I played any of those games, if at all, so I can't really comment. Why FUABMX v3 or v4 instead of v5?

Jabbercate gave me midi versions of every song in Don't Eat Soap, I just used the ogg versions because they sounded so much more wonderful. Still, it would not be impossibe to make a "Lite" version with the midi music.

If I remember correctly, v3, v4, and v5 were NOT incremental revisions. They were White Owl starting over with a new RPG file and re-creating the whole game (my memory is blurry on the subject.... maybe he only did that once, not many times...)

I said it elsewhere and I'll repeat it here: we shouldn't include games that none of us has played in the past year. Maybe they were great when we played them five years ago, but if they don't compare favorably to more recent titles, it wouldn't be the first time.

I have no problem with older games making the cut, but let's make sure they hold up instead of basing our decision on nostalgia.

maybe it could include what not to do, and show games that went terribly wrong? I know a lot of new members (myself included) made highly cliche or just generally bad games. Maybe 2 or 3 games with a .txt file explaining what went wrong would be helpful to new members

Of course. I assumed that the suggested games would actually be stacked up against one another, just going on memory would never work.

Is filesize really still an issue these days? I presume most people have a broadband speed of over 1mb, or perhaps I'm just naive. I know filesize isn't an issue for me at all when downloading file, but then again, I can appreciate wanting to make the distrobution accessible to all users, so in hindsight 'Lite' packages are probably a good idea.

I think there's one or two users on these forums who access the internet at their library and download files onto floppies... or at least they used to, a couple years ago.

Uh, more importantly, dial up still exists (I even have and use dial up occasionally when out in the country), broadband is not available everywhere, and cheap broadband might be only 256kb/s.

Indeed I do still know people who do not have broadband internet in their house. I'm torn between the ideas of splitting the games RPG vs non, or big vs small, because for those who do have fast enough connections, it would be nice to see some of the bigger games.
