Greetings,
I recently, downloaded, installed (through wine) OHRRPGCE as I like to call it, or for the correct term: Official Hamster Republic Role Playing Game Construction Engine.
The program installed very well and I quickly got to making my own tile sets. Having never created art with pixels before this has turned out to be a steep learning curve. I now have enough of them to start creating my own game.
I have already planned out the game, what it is likely to need, what it is going to look like and how it will be a successful game. While considering all of these and my endeavors with OHRRPGCE, I have recently come across HSpeak.
HSpeak otherwise known as Hamster Speak is the official scripting tool for displaying and maintaining the game itself. This appears to include calling text boxes to display text and simulate interactions within the game.
Unfortunately, HSpeak doesn't run in wine, nor does wine support the drag and drop feature of the reason for its existence. Windows and it's cursed exe format. When I say that HSpeak doesn't run I mean that I cannot get it to compile through the normal route nor can I get to dos through wine, this is likely to be my error.
On the OHRRPGCE main site I noted that it required me to install Euphoria and compile my own version. The link to the linux Euphoria file does not work. Therefore I navigated to the Euphoria main site and proceeded to try to install the linux version, unfortunately the version does not work with an automatic installer such as gdebi, not to mention the clarity of the installation file is up for a heated debate. I have searched through the repositories for postScript, Hspeak and Euphoria but I have returned with nothing to show for my efforts.
That is why I come to you now to ask if there is a HSpeak version for Ubuntu, if anyone can produce one for me if there isn't or if there is a work around, perhaps an alternative compiler.
One thing I might have to suggest to the development team is to integrate the scripting tool into OHRRPGCE to make it easier to show events.
If in any way I can aid the solution I'll be happy to do whatever is necessary to complete all suggestions.
Thanks for any help in advance, thank you for reading this lengthy post and thank you for not leaving yet!
1. Check for Dos installations for wine. If [YES] proceed to |RUN| '.hss' -> 'HSpeak.exe'

Yeah, no Euphoria in the ubuntu or debian repositories. And the people at the offical Euphoria site are still stuck in a pretty DOS mindset, so no deb files from them either.
Here is the deb file that I use on my ubuntu box. it was built by somebody on the rapiduphoria forums. I can't find the thread now.

I should really link to this file from the wiki (goes to do that...)
Somebody at getdeb.net was working on a Euphoria package a while back, but I can't find anything about it now, so maybe they lost interest :( |

Seems like a screwed up an installation now my system is throwing out errors all over the place.
Code: |
Setting up Euphoria (3.2.1)
[: 40: grep: unexpected operator
dpkg: error processing euphoria (--install):
|
Eventually it ends up with it's already installed. Yet it's not. I have a feeling I'm going to have to hunt down every damn file on my own. That or live without euphoria. |

Oh, hmmm. that sucks.
I tried that deb file again myself, and I realize that gdebi is telling me that i already have a newer version installed. Darned if I can't remember where I got the newer version :(
I need to get to work on binding an hspeak binary for linux. That should help. |

Thanks for your help I'll be looking forwards to the linux builds!
One day, one day OHRRPGCE will have a debi package! _________________ Campaigning to change the name of OHRRPGCE to Orph anage, because it's just better and easier to pronounce!
Campaigning for Linux! Down with Win.exe!
PS. It's mean to replace words just because you don't like them ¬_¬ moderators... |

It actually does, on playdeb.net, but it is not the latest version and they labeled it Vikings of Midgard
