Squaresoft related OHR game? I think a few to many OHR games are based off square games- its bad enough that SquarEnix do it..
but I'm not trying to talk you out of it! If you can make a game, good for you... I have the same problem. One week max attention span (at best). Week up, drop it, play some computer game or work on somethign else... _________________ "It is so great it is insanely great." |

Don't jump into making the game first. Design it on paper, decide exactly how you want the entire thing to be done. You can always make changes, but your game will be ten times better if you're working off of a plan. |

I'll say that JSH is right on this. Take your time, plan it out first, take a few weeks or a few months to develop the idea, then make it.
And, instead of making a Squaresoft-based game, make an Eggie-based game. _________________

A lot of people are working on big ambitious projects-- and there is nothing wrong with bigness or ambitiousness-- But don't forget the value of a short, sweet, small, complete game
Try making a small game, maybe one that can be played from beginning to end in less than half an hour. Plan out the entire storyline before you even create the RPG file.
Most of the games out there (my own included) are only unfinished demos. Any full game with a beginning a middle and most importantly an end, will be set apart from the crowd.
Even if the game is short, the completeness of if gives an important sense of accomplishment to both the player and the author. |

Here's something fun. Go to Search. And filter the gamelist so it only shows completed games. Everyone thinks that they're gonna make the end-all OHR game that will make them popular, but the truth is that you will get bored of it. Yes you will. I've decided to start making little games with, as James said, about half an hour of gameplay. _________________ You got film in my video game!

I was just wondering, how many completed games were made entirely by only one person? A lot of the completed games I see are usually made by a team, but I really haven't downloaded very much. I'm just curious is all. I'm working on my game alone, it's fairly big but I only work on it in the summer pretty much, so about when I'd be getting bored of it I'm taking a break anyhow. |

I was wondering the same thing. I am also working alone on all my games. I have sucessfully completed two games which are about 12 and 24 hours of gameplay (none are posted on this site).
Most people do get bored unfortunately and leave many unfinished projects. You really have the game drafted before you begin as stated before to keep from getting bored with your project.

I've completed two games, both of which are less than an hour long.
They both suck, but they're complete.
I'm ESSENTIALLY done with Query Part I, but I DO want to go back and
revamp it someday. I'm really not pleased with it at all.
I don't think anybody ever can truly complete a game...
I mean, even if my games were absolutely fantastic in every way, I'd
want to add more stuff to them. |

I know what you mean about adding more stuff. Usually by the end of a game (which is usually a year and a half project for me) I have so many new ideas for games and I usually start right into the next game.
While I'm making the games I try to include as many sidequests and secrets as I can because I never go back. After a year and a half of working on a project the story can get a bit old...

Hey *Worthy*, if you have completed games with tons of gameplay, why in the world don't you put them up here? |

Ooh, I just remembered. The first demo of Choco: Tale of a Warrior is complete, but being the big pinhead I am, I saved over it. I'll have it (and a version edited for profanity) tomorrow at the soonest, saturday at the latest. I promise.
Oh, and On-Topic, I'd be glad to help out, but I'm busy with the following:
KW1 Remake
Isle
Midnight Rescue Remake
Choco: ToaW |

The reason I haven't posted my previous games is that the graphics are nothing spectacular. I was a very novice drawer when I started. Compared to a lot of games out there the graphics just plain sucked. I have been considering releasing my latest game, but I am not sure yet. I really don't want to create a bad image of myself.
I planned on posting a DEMO of my new game featuring a custom battle design for bugtesting and suggestions (thanks Iblis for the idea) this past Sunday, but with school and a few unexpected errors I'm running behind. But I should get it up soon...

Note of encouragement to Eggie and agreement with everyone else:
Gameplay Time
- The Fifth Age- approx. 4h
- Neo Krysta- 2h 30m
- Neo Krysta II- 2h
- Neo Krysta III (demo)- 1h
I'll leave out Hoshima, since that was a series. You're game doesn't have to be 40 to 99 hours for it to be worth anything. _________________
