well, I got to thinking about a new mage type a "card mage" if you will, but making such a mage would sensibly require making cards asitems for him to learn...however I thought of a better way...one would enter a shop and purchase a "lv.1 attack chip" which has a tag set on it so when you have it in your inventory it is set...you would go into a back room of the shop and, having a "lv.1 attack chip" all the lv.1 attack cards that you can get in that area would be there and when you "talk" to one it would say what it is then have a "yes no" prompt and in selecting yes your chip goes away and you learn that card as a spell...this would not be only suitable to a "card mage" but other mages could use a similar system and I suppose skills for knights and stuff too...in case you're wondering "where in the HELL did he get an idea like that?" I was watching Cartoon Network and drawing at the same time...and Yu-Gi-Oh came on...and that one dude with the funky rings around his neck and white hair summoned stuff and used magic from the cards in real life...and that is where in Hell I got such an idea...do you think it's a stupid idea?(I wasn't actually paying much attention and don't normally watch that so have no clue what that guy's name really is) |

If you can pull it off, I guess it would be nice, however, the idea's already been implemented into Yu-Gi-Oh (sort of), Lost Kingdoms (Rune in Japan), and Ogre Battle (Tarot Cards). I probably forgot another game or two, also. :\ _________________

. . . except for the fact that espers were in FFVI . . . and theyreally didn't behave like Razor's idea . . . don't recall anything resembling cards in FFV, but I haven't played it in a while . . .
Good idea, Razor. Go for it. _________________ UP DOWN UP DOWN LEFT LEFT RIGHT RIGHT A B START |

Actually, Me, there are espers in ff5 AND ff6. In ff6 you have to equip them and battle and eventually learn them, etc. But in ff5, they are recieved when you beat golem and other hard to find people, as well as ifrit and some bosses. They can only be used by summoner. you just use them in the inventory and voila, you can cast the spell. Sounds pretty much like what Razor_EX is on about to me. _________________ What cruel person decided lisp should have an s in it? |

Well, if that's going to be an "esper," then any magic spell that is learned through item use (as half the spells in OHR games are) is copying that system.
Anyway, Razor_X's system makes it so you can actually figure out what each spell does, how much it costs, who can use it, etc. before buying it. The current system for buying in shops only tells as much as can be fit into the item description, so his idea makes for more in-depth description of a spell's functions. I like it.
By the way, I know you probably made it up yourself, but there is a commercial RPG that uses a similar system. In Square's Treasure Hunter G, items are bought in shops by actually picking them up and adding them to your inventory, then going over to the counter and purchasing them, more like how it works in a real store. Just to let you know that your idea has been proven to work in some form at some point in the past. _________________ UP DOWN UP DOWN LEFT LEFT RIGHT RIGHT A B START |
