Them's Fightin'

When I fired up rhis game I was impressed by the effects that the author used on the intro as well as the above average character art (for home made that is, I have seen some REALLY crappy character art as of late). The gameplay was pretty solid, the graphics were mostly above average as well (the fireflies as lght sources with dancing shadows were a very nice touch, as well as the lighting by the doors and such). On the negative side the trees and some of the map tiles could use some fine tuning, as well as the walkabout graphics. Personally I am okay with the shuffle thing, but apparently some people have a problem with it.
The storyline is pretty good as well. Dragon elementals were done fairly nicely and the dark graphics fit the fact the Dragon of Light had perished. One thing I did have a small problem with is the fact that when playing a lot of the doors are completely hidden. For example after you beat the fireflies and go south out of town , then north to the woods the entrance to the next section f the woods looks exactly like the map itself, making it necessary to go up to each tile and press up to see where the heck you can get into the woods. Even a slight change (cracks in walls as per Zelda to show hidden passages for example). Overall a pretty good game, I enjoyed playing it.

Final Scores

Graphics: 8/10.0 |
The effects were very nice (fireflies, character battle graphics, etc), but some f the map tiles could use wrk as well as a few of the enemies. The font however did somewhat take away from the game. This is the first game I have seenwhere someone actually took the effort to make thir own font style, but it just makes it a little hard to read for some reason...Points for effort though.

Storyline: 9/10.0

I liked the idea of the Dragons and the hunters vs. you attitude. Very nice. Would have been a 10 but for some reason I just couldnt bring myself to do it. |
Gameplay: 8.5/10.0 |
Pretty solid gameplay, but after a while all the RPG's here kinda blur together in some respects. The ability to earn Techs was a very nice touch.

Music: 5.5/10.0

The reason this score is so low is the fact that the instruments used are extremely...pingy for lack of a better way to explain it. If it were not for that one file being used in the main village this score would be a point or so higher, but that just got under my skin for some reason. |
Overall Grade:

A very nice game that is well worth the incredibly small download time (thank God for WinZip). I would suggest this to anyone who is an RPG fan and not extremely picky though. Very nice work. |
